Coil Pack?

So I'm flying to work yesterday, and all of a sudden I lose power and my check engine light starts flashing. I'm not sure why my car waited until I fixed its vacuum leak to have this happen, but I'm hopping mad. Should I assume this is a coil pack failure? How far can I safely drive on 3 cylinders? I'm really worried.

Well, I scanned it @ Auto Zone, found misfire on cylinder #3, and headed to Autopart International in Marcy to pick up two ignition coils (one extra just in case). I also picked up a new set of plugs, but I don't have a spark plug socket, so I haven't changed those out yet. Fired the car up and she's idling just fine in my driveway right now. I'm going to clear the codes and pick up a spark plug socket @ Auto Zone now...

bummer! coilpack failures suck.. at least someone local had one for you.

Whatever you do...DO NOT BUY coilpacks from GAP. They are made by STI and saying they blow ass is an understatement. I hade one die in less then 500miles(they replaced it). Then had another 2 die 1k later.

I've got to check, but I have a bad feeling the two I bought today were both made by STI. I'll update once I find out.

I used the gap ones with no issue in my mk4

yeah I have used the STI packs on and off. they fail at pretty much the same rate as stock (which is often, but oh well)

Well, the old one was an STI unit. The new ones are some german brand, but definitely not STI. Still running like a champ, though!
