I am starting off by saying this is an ebay wastegate. TiAl rip off. It came with my intercooler plumbing kit so I thought I'd throw it in.

Now for the problem....

Very low boost that does not come on until about 3500-4000rpm. This is with a t3/t4 57 trim turbo. This turbo should spool quite quickly on a vr6. Even on full throttle acceleration I am only seeing about 3 psi even into high rpm. The wastegate has an open dump tube that I made. Anyway The valve seat needed to be machined to fit correctly so I think exhaust is getting past the wastegate. I dont know. Anyone is more than welcome to come and drive it and tell me what you think.

Even if it is not the root of the problem I want either a turbonetics deltagate or a TiAl.

You can hook up an aircompressor to the wategate to try it and see where it opens, providing you hae a regulator that will go down to a few psi. I had problems with a cheap wastegate and ended up finding a pin hole in the diaphram.

with the car running do you feel/hear any exhaust coming out the dump tube? That right there should tell you if its leaking.

Do you know for a fact the turbo is good?

I would try what warren recomends with the air compressor.

The turbo is brand new and the wheel spins freely when you twist it with your fingers.

would i need to take the wastegate off the car to test it with the air compressor?

What did you machine on the seat? What spring does yout wg have? Its might be working correctly if it has a light spring. Its easy to test like they said, because you have a dump tube just apply pressure to the wg at idle and see what psi it opens at. Also see if it will hold open or does it slowly close or cyle open and close. This is a good way to determine if you have a diaphram leak.
Boost or exhaust leaks(manifold, turbo) will cause lazy spool up and reduced power/boost output.

good deal I will have to try this. I assume that I apply pressure to one of the vaccume ports on the wastegate. There are 2. One on the underside of the diaphram and the other on the top. Which would I apply positive pressure to?

the valve seat would not fit when I tried to mount it to the manifold. It is possible that I installed it wrong. I had to machine it flat to get the wastegate to bolt to the manifold and get the gasket to work.

Does this sound right for wastegate install?
Manifold-gasket-valveseat-wastegate?
I placed the valveseat between the wastegate and the manifold, but the ring around it would not allow it to bolt up so I machined it down.

You use the bottom port, the top is a vent and left open unless you are using an electronic boost controller.
It sounds like you might shot yourself in the foot with the seat. Its supposed to press against the valve and put it up. They stick out from the wastegate surface when decompressed and compress whe you tighten it down. Maybe it will still work I'm not sure what kind of travel the valve has. If you do buy a new one don't get a deltagate either, they suck.

The valve seat is probibly my problem at this point. I pressurized the wastegate and absolutly nothing happens. Sounds the same. At idle there is exhaust coming from the dump tube which is another indication. This could be the reason my car is loud even idling.

Can you purchase valve seats seperatly? I think i'll try this first to see how it works.

I don't know on the ebay deals. I would email the guy you bought from maybe he can get you one.

what ps1 spring is in your waste gate, you might have bought one with a 3.5 psi spring in it.

I dont even know what spring it has. It came all thrown in a box with no paperwork... ebay deal

Even if it had a 3.5 psi spring in it, I am seeing zero boost under full throttle acceleration until about 4000rpm. and this is with a T3/T4 turbo pretty much identical to the one in the kinetic kit just with a 5 bolt discharge instead of a 4 bolt. This should not be normal right? I should see boost much earlier?

i'd have to take alook at it!
