I have to take the pullys for the v-belts, etc of the crankshaft and waterpump on my 2.0 engine. Are the bolts that hold them on regular metric hex bolts, or are they those strange torx bolts?
I'm in the middle of taking them off, so any help now would be awesome.

Nevermind, got it answered on the tex.

the only torx ones are on 91 corrado starter and most driveshafts that I know of. so usually a 6mm hex is going to be your answer

6mm hex was what I was looking for, but now how the hell do I get the pullys off of the camshaft?? I've tried doing it, but those bolts are really on there, and the damn thing keeps rotating whenever i put a lot of pressure on it.
The only thing that I can think of is using air tools to just jerk them right off, but I don't have anything like that. Does anyone have any air tools that they could lend me a hand with, i really wanted to get this done today.
Anyone have an answer?? :(

I was able to get an electric impact wrench, but it didn't budge at all, and I had an air ratchet, but that was useless. I think that I am going to try torching the bolts with a propane torch, anyone think that's a bad idea? I'm running out of ideas since nothing seems to be getting this hunk of junk off of my car.

do you mean camshaft bolt? there should only be one. Do you have the timing belt off already?

are you talking about the 4 hex bolts on the crank pulley? I usually put a socket on the center nut to hold it still. once those 4 bolts are out use a rubber mallet to take the pulley off. then take off the plastic coer and you can loosten and remove the timing belt.
also - pb blaster works wonders.
hope that helps.

Yeah, I'm trying to get those 4 bolts out, and no luck so far, although, you just reminded me that I have a can of PB around here somehere. Do you use a regular wrench on those 4 hex's or something different?

I use a large ratchet on the centernut and roll it back against the axle so it holds the pulley still, then use a regular wrench (might need a breaker bar) to undo the 4 hex heads.

Gotcha, and I have another quetstion for ya pete, i noticed some oilresidue with dirt in it around the crankcase breather so I checked it out, turns out that the small piece of rubber tubing on the front of it (not the one that goes into the intake pipe) was comepletely craked open on the side facing the engine. it's only about 5 inches long. You wouldn't happen to have one, or know anyone with one laying around that I could buy, cause the stealership isn't open tomorrow :)

one of mine did the same thing and the crack was small enough to tape over. jackies cracked too and we cut the cracked part off and used a rubbber hose. if yours needs to e replaced you can try a junkyard, or GAP sells thhem for $21 I think.

yet another saga at hand, I swear I could kill over the fact that this thing was enver worked on. SO i heated up the bolts, let them cool down, and then put some PB on them. First bolt, came out with no problem, 2nd, the 6mm hex stripped out the head of the bolt, and then it did the same thing to the third one. I have no idea what to do now, does anyone think it could of been the heat? I mean I was using the right tool.

you just gotta drill the heads off, then once thhe pulley is off there should be enough bolt sticking out to turn by hand or with vice grips. I've had to do this a couple times.

Not to sound like a total moron, but just take a big metal bit and go at it in the center of the head of the bolt? In that case I've got to see if I have a good enough drill laying around, I thnk mine may be busted. A guy on the tex actually said to use a dremel, but I think that that would take forever.

yeah, just use a drill bit that is about 3/4 the size of the head. should be good and if not step up to a bigger one.

And last but not least, the timing belt moved while I was getting the bolts off, but the cogs never moved independently, is the timing messed up or no? I can kind of remember where they were before I started moving it around, but again, everything moved together, adn i think that somehow the distributor is connected to all of that, so it should of moved with it, am I right?

your gonna need to line up all the timing marks (flywheel, cam, and distributor). aftter setting the timing make sure you rotate the engine by hand 2 or 3 times and double check the marks before starting the car.

I was thinking of painting a mark on each cog that's associated with the timing bet, and then painting another mark directly on the surface behind it, and making sure that they stay at those mark and don't turn while replacing the belt. Is this a safe move? If not, the semi confusing directions in my haynes manual can be used.

One last thing, ordered the bolts (and that crank breather piece, i got just the rubber part for 8 bucks), and at 2.50 a piece, the stealership wont have them in for another 2 days, they had to order them. Ugh, oh well, i kind of like seeing it torn apart in my garage :p

for the crank pulley? just take one of your 'good' bolts over to hiawatha fastners and match it up with a replacement. you can get it today and it will be like 50 cents instead of 2.50, ive done that several times :)

I'll have to remember that for next time, I already paid for them, but i may be able to run out there and cancel the order and then hit up hiawatha. Do you have the address for that place, cause it's starting to sound like a better idea. :)

Thanks, I'll have to check them out, I've heard good things. I ordered them at Romano, it should be no problem to cancel them, the parts guy has seen me there alot this year, lol.

got the bolts this morning, and I didn't realize that you had to buy 10 bucks worth of stuff in order to use credit, and I only had a buck on me, so the kid behind the counter just said "close enough" and we had a deal.
