threw in the MTL which is replacing some 6k old Motul Gear 300 . . . shifting seems fine . . . hoping for better cold shifts & etc. Not as smooth as the Gear 300 but not as bad as stock.

Any thoughts on Motul motor oils... talked to them briefly at Waterfest... price is certainly reasonable (low thirties for a 5 qrt bottle). The 5W40 X-cess 8100 meets VW 502 and 505 specs.
With around 22K on my GTI I think its time for a gear oil change too. Car only sees spring/summer/fall driving and the gearbox is quiet (no grinding or noise... no reluctance in getting in gears when shifting)... any thoughts there on what I should consider?

5w40 xcess isn't worth it. It's straight PAO. The 0w40 Etech is better.
Chris switched to Motul Gear 300 and he likes it. Drove his car this afternoon and the shifts were much smoother from when I drove it last time.
