By: Web Staff

An accident in Coeymans claimed the life of an Ulster County man on Friday.

State police said Steven Rossi, 39, of Lake Katrine was travelling southbound on the Thruway when he lost control of his car and went through the median. His car hit a flatbed tractor trailer on the other side of the Thruway.

No other cars were involved, and state police were forced to close the right lane headed northbound for a short time.

Thats terrible, I wonder if he was driving in the rain and that's why he lost control...

while I'm not a huge fan of the left lane hogging truckers on the thruway I would hardly blame this unforutnate accident on them. IMHO the US should instate euro style speed limitations on them and greater lane disapline so they dont hold up smaller vehicle traffic for miles.

stu...I was joking about the truckers man....its obviously not his fault the guy went into oncoming traffic.....through a median.....

median barriers would be the answer to fixing this on a thruway..imop...

just sucky...not only did this poor dude get killed, and the truck driver have to live with it...another rado destroyed.

hit so hard the gas door came open....

Independent of Brent's sarcasm, Stu is 100% right here. Lane discipline in this country is for ****! Believe it or not, it used to be much better.... even in Jersey (which is now like a mad max simulation) where I can remember seeing keep right except to pass signs on the Garden state and other Jersey highways when I was a kid and can recall seeing the poo poo actually pulling people over for it... amazing how well people kept their asses in the right lane because of that.

While I doubt Euro style speed limitations will ever go over here in the states, passing/enforcing laws to address lane discipline would probably go a long way to making our highways more efficient and less road rage-y.

End of RichB rant.

Really sad to see a Raddo and a raddo owner perish. The weather was been very wet on that side of the state... would not be surprised if poor weather conditions played some roll. My condolences to gentleman's family.
