I have a new oil pan I need to tap.. where is the best place to put my tap??
ryan do you remember what tap insert I need to get...I almost completly for got to do this.....

...I just need to know how far up it needs to be...... is that on the back or front of your oil pan???

I see engine mount, oil filter housing, and rear tires... must be the front! :p
No idea how high up though... I'm an N/A guy for now.

yeah.....ryan can tap the front cuz his s.c. is on the side and makes it really accesable...g60 are very similar as one line runs to the front...
since on a 4cyl typically the turbo is in the rear...you want the line in the rear...I have a plan I think...will just set it all on as a moc up and find a spot the line reaches and just make it a 3/4 '' shorter to be sure. I hope it works...

I like to put mine on on the passenger side but in a MK1 there is no motor mount bracket in the way. .. You want it almost on the rail as high as you can get it.
I would wait until everything is mounted in the car. just but a couple bolts in the pan to hold it on. That way you can position it perfectly where you want it.
Use a fitting like this one here. Its made for welding, plus its really easy to weld from the inside of the pan. You can easily get it higher on the pan if you do it this way.
