I want to know your opinion on what wheels you would run on a silver MKIV Golf....Aristo or BBS RC. Personally I like the look of the RC on a silver car, but there are so many people with the RC's. Obviously this will be after at least a 2" drop. Kinda like the Axis super mesh also...but I don't know about the quality of these.

RCs for sure . . . . get the 337 shotpeened finish for the extra special effect. Standard GLI RCs are only painted silver.

I'd say RC's

Independant of how many people got em, the RCs are the way to go.

as an added benefit, you get a stronger wheel with the BBS RCs since they were constructed via flow-forming . . .

The aristos are just Ronals . . . . probably heavy as hell too.

Why get OEM wheels when you can get aftermarket ones that are nicer for about the same or a little more (depending whether you're shopping new or used)?

S4 wheels are 5x112 Rob... Id say RCs if I had to choose between those two.

Oh snap Stu! . . .

looks like you can't read

- The brake pads found on the U.S. 337’s are NOT the same as found on the European 25th Anniversary Editions
- More than 200 337 owners have come forth to claim issues with their wheels’ finish being degraded by their stock brake pads
- To our collective knowledge no European 25th Anniversary Edition has the same issues
- Owners of other cars using the exact same wheel with different brake pads have come forth telling us they have no issues with their wheels and their stock, but different, brake pads.

Brake pad issue, not a wheel quality issue.

OMGHI2U...ya I knew that...for 225 a wheel that might have finish issues depending on what brake pads I use? **** that.

VW brake pads are known to be corrosive. Why do you think you see so many VW wheels that aren't shot-peened with yellowed out finish?

Sorry but stock pads are crap and I'd happily swap out to a set of Carbotech Bobcats anyday.

your exactly right Dave, Brake pad replacement should be the very first mod on any late model dub!

so now that everyone is done fighting....what is a good pad? One that stops well, reasonable life, minimal break dust? The best place to purchase?

I like EBC greenstuff, Mintex sucked IMO.

Dave seems to do lots of research on this stuff so I'm sure he'll chime in with some specs / studies http://www.fastdubs.org//forums/images/icons/icon14.gif

Greenstuffs are ok, but they tend to fade suddenly @ higher temps & prolonged exposure to elevated temps will permanently destroy the pads for good. They have a high .55 cf due to the kevlar based compound which results in excellent bite, but non-linear braking. Max temp is 650F

The new EBC Redstuff is ceramic based and is a better pad IMO. .5cf, but very linear. The redstuffs can withstand up to 1100F and unlike the old pad, the ceramics have good cold braking and do not have the crumbling issues of the old ones. The redstuff also dust less than the greenstuffs.

I also like Axxis Deluxe Plus for a good OE replacement that is fairly dustless. Imagine OE but more linear and with a higher fade point.

If you have the $$$, get carbotech bobcats. Ceramic based, extremely good bite, linear braking, high fade point, and practically zero dust. Downside is that they do not come with wear sensors.

I'm looking at Redstuffs or Bobcats for my ride . . .

I ran mintex on my mk3 jetta and had no problems at all. My only complaint is the amount of dust that they put out. Other than that, with stainless brake lines the car had perfect brakes. The pedal was really firm and only moved at most an inch and the pads were really aggressive, very easy to lock the car u on wet roads(no ABS). I thought for performance dry conditions they were great, and hardly any fade after repeated use.

this is the second car I've run mintex pads on with no problem at all. IMHO they work well, a tad better than oem. I agree that they are not overly impressive. But then again a lot of the pads that drastically improve braking (in each others opinions) have side effects, one being that they tend to them make so much heat they warp rotors very fast. But there are so many technical issues associated to brakes. If you want to get into that there are plenty of brake forums to widen your wisdom on brakes.

Brake pads are like chiken wings, everyone has their own opinion on what is best!.

Makes total sence. I've owned the car for about 3 weeks or so, and the wheels get so freakin dirty from the pads, I'm sick of it already. Just looking for something decent to use with the stock rotors for a while.....And Mulligan's in Fayetteville has the best wingy you can find!

Try the hot Italian. As for the wheels...I think I'm on to something else. Although the BBS does look good with the silver.
