View Full Version : 7424 Porter Cable
I picked up one of these pretty cheap (brand new) In the past I have a makita buffer. But that is large and very powerfull, as most of you know not a good item to use for just waxing. So the 7424 is my first ramdom orbital.
Im looking for some input as to what pads you have used (color of pad, looking to just use for wax. No cutting) Also, do you know if SAVES carries these or can you recomend a place to pick them up local?
Also I ran it a little on my rat, and it performed nice cept for a tad bit of vibration. Im running the 6' velcro backing plate and It has the counter balance weight alread installed but it seemed to vibrate a bit more than I was expecting. Is this normal? I made sure the backing plate was tight and the pad was centered correctly.

What model Makita?
I'd get Sonus or Lake Country pads. I'm running Sonus pads.
Random orbits vibrate and tend to "kick" a bit.

If just for waxing, the yellow foam buffing and white finishing pads work great. I use meguires pads.
I'd get 2 yellow 1 for applying and 1 for removing and a white/finishing for a final buff.
Thats what I use and Saves had em in stock, but I think my buffer is a little larger.

I was just looking back and saw this, I have the Makita 9227 rotory. I have had it a while. Its a great tool to have, comes in very handy. I mainly use it for detailing boats and cars that need a make over. I have always applied wax by hand to my cars. But after reading so much on how great the PC is, I decided to pick one up.
I have used the PC twice now and I am fairly happy with it. Fore the most part none of the cars in my family need a lot of work, I just wanted it to cut down on the detail time I spend. And it does that very well, I can apply a coat of wax in no time at all.

I fine with it now, not bad at all. I guess I expected it to be smooth like the rotory!
Towels are for the beach!
