Can an aftermarket catalytic convertor be used for replacement on a 1996 VR6 exhaust?
If so, where do you recommend to buy one?

I like techtonics . . .

Thanks, that confirms my first choice. Do you know if the VR6 uses two oxygen sensors? I know one goes in the cat but would the other one go in the down pipe?
I found this (http://www.stopshopanddrive.com/epcksoap.epc?action=Search&cookieID=1SB02R28G1TO0SFZZO&drillid=7&subcatid=801740@@Oxygen+Sensor&clientid=stopshopanddrive.com) at SSD but I can't figure out what rear means. Perhaps the downpipe?

If OBD II yes 2 sensors, one in the downpipe and one in the cat. OBD 1 the same just a different sensor type.
I have to play around with one of my senors wiring, and will prob have to replace the one in the cat. I've been thinking of getting a tt high flow cat for a while.
There is also this, but I'm not sure about passing emmissions with it..

ive heard from a few different sources if you recess the second O2 sensor, so its not right in the exhaust flow, you can get away with no cat and not throw a CEL (cause the sensor will read low, as if the cat was there).
Wish I could guaratee this but I have not tried it my self... I am personally gonna run a high flow cat on my setup. At WOT the wastegate/dumptube will open so I dont think it will hurt performance, I may still swap it out for a straight pipe after I pass inspection though ;)
I'll be selling my MK3 cat, which has a 2.5" pipe through the middle if you know any one interested. I had it made so I could still pass visual inspection, before they actually started scanning cars.

Also check summit for generic high flow cats, cheaper than techtonics and you just need to have a flange put on it (any welder/exhaust shop can do this cheap).

I ordered the Draft 42 test pipe, just because I wanted to reduce backpressure as much as possible with a 2.5" exhaust and a turbo on a VR6. Hasnt come in the mail yet though..
