I love that color!!
i will get them shaved..first....I hate those rain gutters on the top....
I am lucky mine are still good and I read a little do it yourself fix thing and glued them down so they cant pop up.
Christian does have great prices on ecodes. Thats actually who I was thinking about, we had talked on ccc about me getting a set. I cant go on ccc here though.
I will check the link... did you like yours?
I'm scared to shave my gutters since I've seen so many crack after a while.
Christian is great! I've hooked up through him a couple times. The cullen side markers are good quality! The only bad part is the spring clip used to be kinda junk. I think it's since been fixed. I've never had a prb w/ mine though! My probs w/ cullen were with his almost 2 year group buy. He's got stuff in stock now, so it should come quickly.
I love CCC!! Those guys are great! :icon_tup: I'm gonna try some of their diy's to change the lighting color in the interior.

I wonder how removing so much weight will effect handling?
Good question! In theory the lighter the car the faster you go, the faster you go around turns the more g-force, the g-force (being Gravity force) is dis-placed, so you would think the lighter the car the better it will handle, but I think there is a limit as to when the g-forces overwhelm the car and you can have a flip over, I am not saying this will happen to you (obvioulsy it shouldnt) gravity is your friend even when you wanna drive fast around corners. But I do think there is a formula that pertains to this question.
turbosnow
06-05-2007, 07:25 PM
Well Colin Chapman the founder of Lotus would say "Simplify and add lightness".
Of course handling is such a complex issue that we would be dealing with a vast oversimplification. I like the idea of "displacing gravity" but unfortunately no car maker has yet discovered and antigravity device for cars. The basics though are if you remove weight up high and keep the center of gravity lower you will improve "handling". On the other hand if you remove a lot of weight and have really stiff springs and an overdampened suspension due to the fact that you have tuned for the higher weight you may experience some pretty scary handling. I think in the ranges you are dealing with though removing the weight can only do you good. Now widening the track using spacers and wider wheels may seem to be an easy plus but due to complexities of suspension geometry and camber curves and other things that I would need a reference book and 3d engineering software to understand, I would say that it is probably of dubious handling benefit but definitely a benefit to appearance.

I know there is a Private forum that GTG dubbers access, but rob was the one that made that comment to me in Masons thread about his GTI and me trying to help Mason. So dont use me as an excuse to go private behind the scene posting, which I know exists. If you wanna go Private go, if you wanna boot me fine. But I dont see why.

today I worked on my door cards.. 3 layers of resin and they are finally smoothing out... so I sanded them all down and will do one more coat of resin each... sand and then a final wet sand for paint.
what I was told is if you take engine paint spray it on and a flat normal black and imediatly paint over it before it dries the flat black will dry first and then as the eng paint dries it will crack. repaint it when all dry and it looks just like plastic that looks like leather. I did a test piece today and omg. it is true it works. I am hoping by this time tom I can have them all painted and good to go.

I'm friends with a girl who's pretty cute (but married so don't get any ideas  ) who used to deliver for Fed-X. She was the only one in the fleet. So, women actually do work in delivery of goods through ups/fed-x but she said it's not really an easy job. Trucks are big, people are not considerate w/parking, etc. AND Picture the ups girl there lifting the packages that weigh more then 50 pounds or so that people send through ...
Some interesting things I didn't know about fed-X. (not sure about ups) According to Jen (my friend)
1) They are either independent contractors who own the truck have to buy their own gas, etc or temporary workers.
2) Trucks get stuck sometimes in creepy neighborhoods and where she delivered cell coverage is very very spotty.
That's pretty much it.
But the important info, the car looks awesome man, that camo scheme is sweet, and yah the 10 pic ban kinda sucks.
You're finished with the physical build at this point and just need to tune the SDS correct? Has it turned out like you wanted and are there any changes you'd make looking back (knowing what you know now)?

its turned out almost where I want it looks wise. I dont know about performance yet.
its holley pro 950 standalone, and yes it is pretty much all I have left.
what would I do diff. 1 rent a garage space right off the bat. would have bought a shortrunner in the beggining. would have deleted the power steering and abs in the beggining. would have turned the coils all the way up to make it easier to work on.
I think it would have been cheaper to just buy a full 1.8t swap with tranny and then go big turbo.

Great pics and solid progress!
And Fuslit,
"1) They are either independent contractors who own the truck have to buy their own gas, etc or temporary workers."
IIRC, FedEX routes are outsourced, well kinda. The driver uses the company vehicle but they own the route (in a sense), I have also seen ads from people selling FedEX routes. I guess you can think of it as a bigger Paper Route deal.

The hood pins turned out nice (from what I can tell.) Do they sit flush or is there a little gap? (hard to tell from the pic)

altogether the car ran good.. a bit rich...most of the time... at 5lbs of boost it went to 13.4 lean so I will be working on that. It idles ok for being so rich but it is loading up at times and my plugs prob look pretty bad from the drive.

Seriously dude, your car looks great. I can see it being right up there with the OG's like Kramer (although I think yours is considerably quicker and faster)
My first VW was a Corrado so I've always had an affinity for them... especially when they are properly sorted.
So... let me know when we can shoot the video. I wouldn't mind getting a few of the local dubbers to put together a short film for the fast dubs website... given that there is interest in putting together a small project like this.
Someday I'd like to see this car in person.

almost done my homade door card setup...
I am having some issues with my tune.. car is still rich and breaking up...
at 10lbs of boost it pulls but other issues are arising, rpms are climbing for no reason and after my last trip out the car shuts off whenever I stop. Hoping this is due to my idle air screw again as once before I had a sim issue kinda.
Ryan? If your ever free and wanna help me tune the car a little that would be great. my air fuels seem kinda wierd to me and wanna make sure I am not hurting anything under boost.

I also did the black trim on the door cards and took one of my vents out.. cut a pice of metal to go in it covered it with sweade(sp) and will put my boost gauge in it.
I am wrapping my ebrake surround and in the black pin stripe for now and thendoing the handle and shifter boot in the grey sweade stuff too.

You can get a new idle screw at the dealer, I think they are $14 or so. I can help you tune it possibly this weekend. Have you tried to change the map at all?
USOPHUNKE
08-14-2007, 09:19 AM
yeah I think I am making it worse... I dropped the idle down to 6 and 7 and I am still getting 10.1 afr at 900rpm, under driving a little pos pressure 1 psi 13's and heavy boost 11's n 10's, highway driving 10.1 to 10.6
I was having some issues getting the map to change.. I would change the screen numbers and save it then open it back up and it would regress back to the old numbers. I have figured that out now and it seems to be better.
I have 2 extra passat t.b's in the house so I looked at them last night and the throttle screw has a nut on it. mine is missing. I think that will solve this issue for a while.. will swap them over tonight
sometime this weekend would rock, even fri night I am free

Sounds a little over safe too me. I would shoot for mid 12s under boost. At 1-5 psi a little leaner like 13s is fine. You are way too rich on the highway, that should be easy to lean out.

oh... whats a good spark plug gap I was thinking 26 but heard some are using 23-24.. seems kinda tight for when I am rich...
I would think you want a larger gap (hotter spark= better fuel burn) for more performance but you will go thru plugs faster, the tighter you gap the colder the plug ( colder spark, less burn, less efficient). This is just the facts on plugs. Some people use a hotter plug (gap, if they have internal oil leaks).
I'll explain further, not sure what the gap limit is for your car, but the bigger the gap the better burn you get and with boost, you want more gap to supply a better burn for the added air. More air needs more burn, from what I have seen and read most people limit the boost available by running cold gapped plugs (or stock, factory gapped). There is not a plug pre-gapped for boost AFAIK. Trial and error, but remember if your A/F ratio is off under boost, running a hotter plug can be bad.

Is that a 2.0 serp setup I see?
USOPHUNKE
09-11-2007, 12:01 AM
why yes it is... I plan on swapping over to serp.. in the near future
B4passatglx
09-11-2007, 12:20 AM
wow I like the look of those gauges! Nice!
Besides being neater, is there any small gains from running a serp. belt setup? Aren't they a little quieter too?
USOPHUNKE

they look better and are stronger. quiter doesnt matter much on my ride... its too loud to hear them anyways

bad news good news day
bad news.
1.
my friend Jim Docksteaded died of an anarysm this past week. He was the man who helped me work on the display military aircraft for restoration. We are going to try and get him to be the first person put into the new sampson park cemetary.
2.
my 500 dollar or so bunus check I got from work is being taken back due to it was suppose to go to Scott Forbes(bastid) who works at niagra falls. good for scott.
good news.
1. the mistake for the 500 buck check was cuz scott got my 1500 buck check which they are taking back from him and giving to me. So I will be 1000 a head of where I was.
2. my parts are all coming in very quickly.. I should have the rado up and running proper like by the end of the week..
I love getting boxes in the mail!!!!!!!
no good news to wash out Jim's death except he lived a good life and fought for this country in 3 wars and spent the rest of his life helping people remember what he and all his friends were fighting for.

I got my bbm 90 degree mk2 to mk3 t.b adapter in. It is now in the machine shop being re cut and welded as it was 2 inches too long. Glad I emailed bbm and asked them specifically if it would fit...
all my parts are in and if I can get the piece welded I think I am good to go ... I may try and make esta test n tune sat. I have no other real plans.

now I just need a 3'' to 2.75 reducer and I should be golden.
I plan to have it all back together by sat....
anyone know if a vr t.b. bolt patern obd1 is the same as a 2.0l t.b. bolt pattern?

Did you run AN hose from the cell to the engine bay under the car? if so do you know about what the length was? what size did you run too.
USOPHUNKE
11-27-2007, 11:40 AM
I ran the blue push lock line 1/2 both directions.. I think all said and done it was 30 feet total I have that ran from cell to rail, rail to fpr. one from cell to filter to pump to feed side of rail
I used a mix and match of an style fittings.. from 45 degree to 90 to 0 degree... vasaline and very little heat was the best way to get the push locks on.

Well the warm weather has me thinking corrado and what I would like to do next with it...
I have a few things to finish before I start any other projects.
1. put my new gauges in,
2. put my momo seatbelts in.
3. put my front and rear strut bars in
4. replace my driverside axle as I kinda whooped it doing some end of summer tuning
5. redo my door cards again..... all black I think....and leave the rest of the pistripe interior
6. do my manual steering swap...
7. rent out the dyno for the day and really get into the maps and tuning it....
the good news is it runs and is drivable and it didnt blow the boost tubes off at 20psi like before so I should be able to get alot of driving out of it. although I dont see me driving it on any long trips as I averaged about 13mpg. of course that wasnt on the highway. but with running half race gas and half reg gas it get pricey quick.
other good news is I already bought all the parts min the driveshaft so...it just needs time not much more money... of course I prob should stop by vine st and get my rear strut bar from there....its been like 2 months I think........
my other corrado project is building its home so its out of the weather......
lotar_6
01-09-2008, 09:05 AM
sweet... very managable list! The strut bars are very easy, as is the axle (now that I've done it a bazillion times). I can't wait to see it's home progress!! when do you think it will get started?
USOPHUNKE
01-09-2008, 10:57 AM
When I get my taxes I will prob start it.
I am still sticking to my plan and building my car port first which is connected to the house.. then I will do my garage down the road. I am also doing my driveway and redoing my front porch this summer to close it in. Luckily my brother ows me alot of $$ and I should just have to pay for materials. My carport and driveway are 5800.00 which is pretty fair imop. and then I can store two cars covered and have parking for 5.
I have done the axles they are not a big deal.... the manual steering will be the hardest one to get done and as it is bypassed right now back into itself I wont rush to do it. I am also considering meth injection this summer depending on $$. I also would like to find a corrado parts car to strip down.
USOPHUNKE
01-13-2008, 10:51 PM
picked up my rear strut bar at petes tonight. thanks for holding so long. I did a quick fit and looks to be good with fuel cell easily... removing yellow eurospot stickers tonight and will make some red ones on the machine at work in the morning....
dont know what it will say yet... maybe "add fuel dumbass before you run out again"

USOPHUNKE
02-19-2008, 12:08 AM
just the stocker from gap.... I dont do alot of high rev clutch dropping so I am pretty confident it will hold for a while. I also plan to turn the boost back down to about 12psi for more drivability too.
BUNNYLOVE
02-19-2008, 01:40 PM
If you are going to back off on the boost you might want to go smaller with your injectors. That would help your idle mixture out a ton. Re-tuning is easy, you just adjust your values by the % you decrease in injector size.
Atleast at lower boost you won't need race gas anymore.
USOPHUNKE
02-19-2008, 05:29 PM
I had thought about that but dont want to swap injectors everytime I want to turn up the boost again. I guess I could try and stay off the pedal so much too.....
my 20v short runner is all done so I may do that this spring... really hoping it all fits together nicely
BUNNYLOVE
02-20-2008, 12:43 PM
No, I def. wouldn't do that.
USOPHUNKE
02-20-2008, 03:56 PM

unfortunately, no. I took one of your posted images and used it... and the original was a very small file! I could do a similar one with a larger file as a starting point... but I still haven't figured out how to blow the image up (after cropping) anyway!! I'm still learning the tools I have available, and I think they are pretty limited.
e-mail me a higher res of the original shot I used and I'll try it again.

Kyle you may need a vector image program....the whole point with vector images is that they do not lose resolution as you scale them up....but in order to use them as a desktop they get converted back to a raster image that your OS can read...I have a turtorial on this stuff somewhere...

2. pass side axle replaced in whole.... makes it easy when it falls apart on ya...
3. replaced the throttle body again as I think I fried the tps on the last one.
4. killed 3 huge spiders!!! two of which were humping each other.. i think
5. fixed boost line so the hood doesnt hit it anymore. and readjusted hood pins..(need to lithium grease)
I need the pin color layout for the mk3 t.b. if anyone has it.... I would like to not mess up aother one if possible.
new axles + c-16 + 23psi + dragday should = smile's on brent (of course if I cant trailor it..I will be couping it.
