I ran over my samsung el cheapo phone.

I am torn between a blackberry storm or the tour?

I need to keep my verizon subscription since I only qualify for the 1 year extension plan. So I cannot get an iphone or I would

I am liking the fact that the tour has actual keys but the screen on the storm looks better and I hear the storm with the latest software is faster. Not sure if thats true or not

Opinions?

my g/f missed out and has the Curve. BUT her father has had the Storm since last Christmas and has had to replace it 3 times now, due to software issues. a buddy has one as well, and at Corona fest actually, i was playing with for only about 30 minutes and it locked up on me.

concept = amazing, huge thumbsup. but i think they crammed WAY too much stuff into it before trial testing and debugging. but like you said, maybe the latest greatest software has this fixed....

heres my $.02:smile:

Storm sucks....idea is nice but the touch screen sucks!

Tour is just a glorified curve 8330. Has a better camera and that's about it. I personally like the keyboard on my curve better then the tour. But the looks are nicer on the tour. Its a toss up between the 2. When the tour becomes dirt cheap I'll get one.

P.s posting from my curve now :)

honestly....I hated the storm for a long time...but with the newest software update it runs amazing...The screen takes a long time to get used to...I hated it for a while but now i love it...i love being able to use suretype one handed while driving and flipping sideways and using hte keyboard...also for media its great...i DL movies and watch them on the storm quite often...

The tour...very similar to curve, bold, etc. After having touch screen i have to say the storm is much easier to navigate than using a trackball...

Also the storm 2 looks really nice but that probably won't be released until november of this year.

They are essentially the same phone. Same software different setup. I prefer the tour myself. Come to auburn and get it from me! =)

I recommend www.crackberry.com also, along with www.boygeniusreport.com.

If you were out to get a phone now while on Verizon I'd say go for the Tour. From my reading's though, there is a Storm 2 coming out soon so it might be worth waiting a little bit.

As for the AT&T side (my cell provider), the "Onyx" is coming out around the end of the year per the rumors and is slated to be the Bold 2...yummy!

Any other BB users on here? I have 8310 Curve right now.

Get the Tour. All the feedback I've seen says it takes the good parts of the Storm and removes that awful screen.

My boss's storm's scrreen actually detached, his new one has a smaller screen/different button layout.

I just got an Alias 2 and love it. Note, I don't use it to surf the web, listen to music, or send email.

Texting is extremely easy with a full QWERTY keyboard.

I have to be entirely honest. I watched/waited for the Storm to come out prior to its release last year (probably 6 months prior or so...) and had been a Treo user prior too....

I got my Storm in the first run of storms that came out after release and have NEVER had any of the hardware issues that so many have complained about with the Storm. It is an entirely different style of interface to work with, but it has been great so far. As with any device though, I don't think its without its kinks and maybe one of the most dissappointing things about the Storm has been Verizon's support for the phone. It took nearly 6 months before they released an "official" OS update from the original update that was put out in December.
Having been there, gone down that road...tried a number of different OS's (including betas, hybrids, etc.) I've found that the phone has been really quite reliable for me and I appreciate the "surepress" feedback that you get compared to a touchscreen like the iPhone has. I have no problems doing emails, texts, or any of the other items as well. I use it for everything from planning/tasking for my job teaching, for email to the extremes of streaming bluetooth into the TT w/ Pandora and other Apps and again....can't complain.
So, from this users standpoint....haven't had any issues (and I know them all...trust me...have read all the reviews, saw all the complaints (hang out on Crackberry.com and search the various phone model forums for some good insight)) and I think the Storm is a good step in the right direction for the niche market that BB is trying to corner. It is FAR more handy than my TREO ever was IMHO.

That said...a Blackberry system takes a bit to get used too, but if you like the business/professional orientation it has....it is great. OS 5.0 (coming in Sept for Storm1 hopefully) is going to be even BETTER and Faster than the current 4.7 based systems. Excited to see it. That said, if you like the feel of a physical keyboard in front of you, etc. you can't go wrong with the Tour (friend has that....very nice phone) either.

For the Storm though....if you can wait....I think I'd wait until November as the Storm 2 will be released supposedly around the same release date of the original one last year. It is dubbe the 9550 and supposedly has improved on many of the "flaws" that traditional BB users found with the Storm and BB seems to have done their homework in the second generation of device. The new Storm II is also supposedly going to have WiFi as well (Rogers (CAN based) Storm 1's actually get WiFi already). So that is a plus too.

I'll have another year on mine here before my new every 2 kicks in...but I've really enjoyed the phone so far even though I know many other have had issues/probs with it.

I actually just finally did another hybrid OS update on mine last night 5.0/.167 via crackberry, and the performance has improved even more.

I've become rather attached to it :) Crackberry Addict...
