Hey all, buddy of mine is doing an engine swap in his audi v8. So I'm looking to start piecing together a turbo kit for my gti, to keep up.
I've been going back and forth on jumping into this project. I've finally decided to piece together the kit part by part. This will hopefully make the sticker shock fade a bit.
So first things first. I'm getting a GT35R from 034 motorsport.

I'm aware that the A/R ratio directly relates to spool up times and max boost. Can someone out there recommend .63 .82 or 1.03. I'm looking for 325-400 hp and a relatively quick spool.
Thanks all

A GT3071R or 76R will pull those numbers on a 1.8t with quicker spool than a GT35R, I'd think they'd do the job on the VRs too.
That said I wouldn't go below a .82 on the GT35R, the .63 housing restricts top end on a 1.8t with marginal spool benefits compared to the .82.

Hey all, buddy of mine is doing an engine swap in his audi v8.
guy in Rochester swapping a 3.6 for a 4.2?

Yea he's a very good friend of mine. We're going to pick up the 4.2 tomorrow.
So I was basing my decision for the GT35R on sleepydubs GLI VRT. He had good results with the 35R. I'm leaning towards the .82
Another question. Is there any advantages/disadvantages to a t3 vs a t4 flange?
I was going to work through pag parts originally. Their turbo manifold is t4 flanged. Then I found a less expensive option from 034.
034 Manifold (http://www.034motorsport.com/product_info.php?cPath=28_85&products_id=18583)
PAG manifold (http://pagparts.com/product_info.php?cPath=154&products_id=580)
Is theyre any reason I should go with Pag parts vs. 034?
I'd really not like to sacrifice anything, in case I want to go for bigger numbers in the future. But I'm hoping to cut costs where it won't hurt.
Thanks

I'm not aware of sleepydub's setup, but a GT35R will do a lot more on a 1.8t than 400hp.
Pag and 034 are good companies, can't go wrong with either. T3 vs T4, the T3 should easily make 400whp on your VR as it does 600+ on the 1.8t, but with your larger displacement and more cylinders I doubt you'd loose spool or pickup with a T4 which is too large for a 1.8t.
OT - where did Sam get the 4.2?

On a high HP turbo car, those are words to die by. Cutting costs leads to weak links in your setup. Being smart about what you buy I think is more what you were thinking.

Couldnt have said it better myself...oh wait...I didn't. lol
So a t4 flanged .82 A/R GT35R. That means I'm going with the PAG manifold.
Sam's 4.2 is from RI. We head out early in the AM. We should have it in Syracuse tomorrow night.

piecing my 24v turbo kit still.... I'm gonna run a rotomaster T67GJ.... not sparing a dime on this build so it is taking awhile, but i will easily make 400 when done.

The 1.8t guys have had horrid luck with the rotormaster t3/t4 turbos. I'd run a search on rotomaster in the vwvortex 1.8t forum if you've not yet bought it.

Turbo came in on Monday, just as I was getting on a plane to Little Rock Ar for the week . My brother sent me some awful cell phone pictures. Hopefully I'll have something better later today.
Edit: Pictures!

Does it seem strange to anyone that I purchased a .82 A/R turbo and it says .70 A/R on the compressor housing?

Okay, so I was bad... took the rare chance I was home for a weekend to get some body work done. I should be buying turbo parts, but I had dents on my fender and on my rocker moldings that were driving me crazy.
Had a friend of mine do it on the cheap. I even talked him into debadging and filling my hatch. Got all the prep work done today. Found out I'm back on the road again tomorrow, so paint will come next week. :frown:
In the meantime, look out for the mystery mark 4 with the racing stripe.
