As many would predict now that my W8 has ~45K miles I have received the P0011 CEL code. I've made an appointment at Burdicks for next week. I'm sure it will be another week of two before i can get it actually serviced. The car is still under warranty but I have done all the servicing myself. I'm very nervous about how much flack they give me over the DIY work.
They only have one W8 tech but I believe he has done many of these repairs so hopefully practice makes perfect. After reading Dave's recent laments about BUrdick's I hope mine are more positive.

It means
Intake Valve Timing Control Circut Failure Bank 1
Which I guess means that his timing is a lil ****ed... aka he needs the timing belt done... aka if he can't do it himself he's about to get raped by the dealership... thank god I did mine last month when I replaced my water pump... dealer only gets my money when theres something I'm entirely too lazy to do or if I need parts (I was there today) That really sucks man... Your car must be sick cuz I've never seen one...my dealership only carries a handful of nice cars... aka audi a5 and an r32 and a triple white beetle... a couple M3s.. good luck man

This is a common problem with W8s. The engine will have to be pulled and the camshaft position sensors replaced. Hopefully, I can convince them to replace both sides. W8s have two timing chains, not belts, and this is not the problem.
Since the original VW warranty is still good this should not cost me any money.

Strangely the CEL disappeared this morning and so did the engine roughness at low RPMS. I'm still going to Burdick's next week but now I'm really nervous.

The visit to Burdicks was interesting. After a week of driving the CEL has still not come back. Jason is their W8 tech and he put the engine through a bunch of stress tests on the computer and there were no faults. No the best guess is that the piece of carbon that messed up the solenoid got free.
I'm at 46K miles now and will do an Auto-rx cycle at 50K miles.
Relieved yes, but I'm hoping I don't hear the other shoe drop.
