alright, I know not all of us are fans of Vortex, but i found this, Garrett T3/T4 57 trim Turbo has only 500 miles on it. It was freshly rebuilt in November by Garrett. Cold .50A/R Hot .48 A/R.I $250 http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3214076&cmd=addnotify
What horsepower would I be looking at after all the other necessary components where acquired, and is this really worth picking up?

Thats a good deal if its in good shape. You could make 400whp with it but you need quite few supporting mods to make it work. It'll probably surge a bit with that .48 housing too.. I would swap on a .63. Assuming it has a stage one wheel.

is this easily done? and rather inexpensive? I'm leaning towards dumping my next paycheck to get this

Its not to hard but it is expensive. You will need a new exhaust manifold, oil lines, wastegate and downpipe just to bolt the turbo up. You'll also need tuning, injectors, etc also depending on what you have already.

those are all coming next year, i figure this is a good buy and I should jump on it, but for the .60 housing, is that expenisve as well as difficult? all the extras will be purchased over the next year and hopefully all installed next spring/summer.

400whp is reachable with about another 2K investment (although you may save alot finding good deals like that)... something good to have laying around for motivation to put together the rest of a BT setup though... If you weren't interested I might have to snag it up...

no problem... I'm looking the kit route anyways... although I have been given good info by people on here the routes to take should i not go kit... I'm probably going to end up with a GT28... only looking for 300-350whp until internals on the motor can be done...

i thought anything over 300hp and you pushing the stock rods?

yeah I heard the same, I plan on replacing the rods when I install this, but down the road I'm looking for 400+whp, way down the road. But to start off with this turbo, I'd like to see put down some good 300whp. but like I said next year, it'll give me time to think of the specifics I'll be adding around the turbo.

I have an extra 5 bolt .63 a/r T3 housing which will most likely work depending on what your turbine wheel is.
Sounds like a good deal to me, But please beware. I bought 2 turbos now that were in "used" but rebuilt condition and they had a ton of shaft play and were not rebuilt, just taken apart and cleaned so they looked new.
I only buy turbos brand new now :frown:

Limits torque not horsepower. Turbos that bring on strong and high torque spikes will kill rods. Anything over low 300wtq should be using upgraded rods.

Im in the more category  But like Stu said its torque. I'm at 284 ft lbs and my torque curve is nice and smooth, no spikes. I'm still taking my chances though

Thats about the same size turbo I have on mine. I was running 23-25 psi with it all last year with revo's stage 3 and 42lb , no motor problems.

Assuming it has a stage one wheel.
almost all T3/To4's now use a stage 3 wheel standard, but changing the housing is really easy and you can get used housings from any where, you just need one machined for a stage 3 wheel.

Been awhile since I ordered at T3/T4. LOL Using a stage III wheel is a good thing though, I can see why this is standard practice now.
