Finally made time this past weekend to do a little work on the mighty diesel. Bought a dual-round grille a while back, and got tired of it collecting dust:

Getting started...

All the old stuff is off the car...

New rad support in place and lights bolted up...

In and throwing lumens...

The install was fairly easy, although the aftermarket rad support was just a bit off dimensionally. I had to slot the mounting holes for one headlight to allow the grille to fit properly (the headlight wasn't quite centered in the grille opening.)

Next will be actual bodywork and paint.

Anybody know what the proper bulb is for the euro city lights? These headlights came with the bulbholders, but no bulbs, and it would be fun to get those hooked up too.

:icon_hit:

I believe all the bulbs should be compatable, if they are push and twist.....: 756, 1815, 1889, 1891, 1893, 1895, 12929, 12814.

Looking good, Ice!

Thanks for the props - I'm a big fan of round lights on Mk1s and Mk2s.

The last diesel I had I converted also, but I modified the rad support myself and used headlight buckets from a Mk1. Using the proper pieces, this time was waaaaaaay easier.

Went badgeless this time too. The repaint will include shaving the emblems off the back end too.

I've considered them. I don't have any experience with them, though and I have to admit I'm something of a lighting snob. If the OEM fog doesn't kick booty, I won't use it. Many OEM fogs are essentially useless, so I usually end up buying a serious set of Hellas instead.

I'd love to get a chance to see the Mk2 factory fogs in action, but I don't know anybody who has them. They do look cool in the bumper, but as I said, I'm a snob

Most are form < function...
I think I'm more form = function.

i would never run stock fogs.... they dont look that great imop are fixed and not really adjustable

I like how your bumper doesnt have the cut out... if you decide to do them and wanna trade front bumpers so not to have to cut one I'd be down...

If you want the un-cut bumper we can make a deal. Thanks to Todd I have a new bumper that is slightly better than the one that's on the car. The bumper on the car has two issues: digs in the plastic behind the top license plate screws, and the mounting bracket on the driver's side end is broken. I will be pulling it off when I do the repaint - if you want it, and it's good enough to put on the coupe, you got it. I was planning to fix the bracket and use it, but the other bumper has a good bracket so I'm switchin'.
