View Full Version : coils?
well i asked on the vortex and got some good responses...
i asked about vmaxx coils and got a few good pictures, but i wanted to know what you guys think of them, i know theyre cheap but am i gettin sheet coils??
some one said that they are too bouncy, but i have a bouncy car, and i think thats the least of my worries...
i only want coils because i hate having to drive the car in the winter being that low  so i can raise the car in the winter and lower it in the summer...
help please

I think some people said that vmaxx aren't that bad. If you do decide to buy them, let us know what you think of it.
imo suspension is NOT something you want to cheap out on.
If you are seriuously concerned about the quality of sh1tty coils then just get the good ones.
for the extra $$ you get better quality.
If you like to be tight on your money and you cant really afford the coils go with the economy ones but if you can spring for the cash then just do it.
i would rather get the better coils then take a chance and kick myself in the a$$ later.
PS you stole my bat and i EXPECT it back

i had vmaxx's on my mk4, but if the reason your buying coils is to raise in winter and lower during summer then i dont know, id buy a stock suspension for winter and just do a swap. Driving coils through the winter = coilovers not adjusting anymore:mad:

I wanted a few more months to get my FK's instead of vmaxx for my Rabbit and it was worth it in the long run. I have over 15k miles on em and love em.

this can be avoided with proper care and meticulous maintenance. I think all in all, vmaxx is just more bouncier than other brand named coils and I got this from a lot of reading (no experience). How much do the vmaxx sell for? $500? If you wait a bit, you can get the popular weitec xs for $800 with a group buy. You can also get Koni's (lifetime warranty) and FK's for ~~$1000. But, I'm sure you know this already!!!

I've read hours of reviews on these coils before i bought them and alot of people got rid of the bounce by cutting the bump stops and something about removing the helper springs?
Either way i cant wait to get mine on!

Taking out the hellers will get ya lower. But will result in more bounce in most applications. Happened on my FK's when I ditched the helpers.

the "helper" springs everybody keeps talking about removing to get lower are actually TENDER springs. Helper springs have VERY little resistance and can be compressed with two fingers. Their purpose is to hold a linear rate spring in place when the suspension is completely unoaded (ie. on jack sands or jumping rail road tracks). When the car is on the ground the helper is completely compressed and acts like a spacer. A tender spring is a spring that's a lower rate than the main spring. This creates a progressive spring rate effect on the coilover. Here's a good link with pics and an excellent description of both. As for the coilovers... the Kyle's agree... you get what you pay for. I posted a link in another "what coilover should I buy" thread here on fd to a tex post where a Rado owner snapped a paetec coilover in half! The v-maxx... dunno. don't care. I luv my Koni's and the dampening adjustability, but if I had it to do over, I might go with the PSS9's.

that paetec was random imop. alot of people run them without issues, I love the way mine ride. would I autocross them maybe..
vmaxx have been said to be bouncy at first but break in... depends on what you want. if your going to autocross or really hit the twisties alot spend the $$. otherwise if your just looking for the look.. they should be fine. if your going to run them through winter cover them in vasaline caked on in the threaded areas and the threads wont get gummed and rusted up...
for 3-400 more you will never have to worry about it though....
thnx kyle...
