I had to pop start it last month b4 I replaced my battery... and since then I can start my car without the clutch in. And when I have the front in the air when its in neutral the tires spin?? My clutch works perfectly fine and has like 30k+ miles left on it by the way it drives according to a couple of my buds and the dealership... I asked them what they thought an they said something about a clutch safety switch stuck on? Anyone have any idea? I got my exhaust and rotors on today... decided to let it sit up on jack stands cuz I wire brush sanded the calipers so I could paint them red... someone help me out

dunno bout your car, but I've always been able to start the rado in gear... :embarrassed:

not sure about the tires rotating out of gear... clutch could be on it's way out. I've seen cars do that before, tho. They spin in opposite directions, right?

nope, they both spin the same way... its really weird... I dunno... if my clutch is going I'll prolly get a stage 1... but I dunno if I need one or not... haha figures that I just sold my jetta that just had a clutch put in. Anyone got any other ideas? the car drives perfectly fine

just get a stock clutch.. if you need to.

have some one hold the other side while you spin one side if they still wanna spin together in nuetral something is up.
try putting in reverse and in gear a couple times ack to uetral see if it still does it.....
where does your clutch grab at. high up in the middle or when your foot is on the floor.

is the car level or just the front up... ive read that other people have had issues with tranny doing wierd things with just front up.

mk4 clutches are not the best esp if your beating on it, the wear factor is quick. do 020 tranys have a way to adjust clutches manually?

mk4 are the suck... but purty!

I've got the whole thing up on stands... the clutch engages high... no where near the floor... I'd know if the clutch was gone lol... my jetta's clutch was completely shot an I had that done... and my buddy's celica clutch, oh and the 240 clutch... haha... It all just happened when I pop started it tho so I suppose I'll have to go to the dealership... and they can ask me about my new exhaust and brakes ;-)

just a guess but...the starting in gear could be caused by a sensor (if one even exists)...every problem I have with my mk4's is 99% of the time sensor related. I would assume there must be some sensing device to tell if the clutch is in or out.

As far as the clutch engaging high... it could just be worn. If you end up needing one...I have my stock mk4 tdi clutch and dual mass flywheel. I upgraded to a spec clutch when I did mods. It has 80k and worked fine when I swapped it.

oh btw... the clutch flywheel setup I have wont work for a VR6 or if you are heavily modded.

so what EXACTLY is the problem, you dont need to put the clutch in to start the car?

if thats the only problem you have with your MK4 then youre on easy street.

If it is some kind of sensor for when u pop started it, then try to unplug the battery for about 15 min, that should reset the sensor. If not and noone else has an idea then go to the dealer...What is wrong with having a new exhaust and brakes? Warranty thing? If so, I have a lot more than that and my car is still under warranty!

Ya, I dunno... the dealer guys will have a field day with my car... upgrade brakes and exhaust, intake... and a completely different front end... they'll be like... wtf car is this? but ya... I can start it without pressing in the clutch.. only real problem.. I just don't know why it would do that... clutch catches bout halfway up... an like 2 months ago the dealership said it had plenty of life left in it when I had them adjust my linkage cuz I messed it all up lol... but I really am clueless about whatsup with the clutch..

that right there has me wondering if they might have disconnected some sensor and not plugged it back in after adjusting your linkage.... did you getting it adjusted coincide with being able to start it without pressing in the clutch? or maybe it happened then and you didn't notice till later?
