In the last carnation of my 2.0 20v motor I was running the OEM small port intake manifold on a large port head (no graceful step down either between the two).
034Motorsport did some testing of a small port manifold and a large port manifold on a large port head and found the simple swap gained 20whp, no tuning changes or other changes made.
Pretty interesting...

maybe you should go choke yourself lol  Big port heads were a dime a dozen a few years ago, now they are impossible to get cheap, even bare!

thats pretty cool some one actually took the time to experiment with that, 20whp aint nothing to shake a stick at for just changing a manifold.
who put your old motor together?

It's also quite funny... the post indicates the measured improvements where measured on a "mildly" modded 1.8T :eek:

haha, Ty was fighting me for the laptop keyboard last night and I didn't proof read....doh!
Yeah, Rich I think the "mild" setup on the car is a bit miss leading but is very similar to my motor. Rob, my motor is a Eurospec Sport long block that was installed by KTR in my Mk4.
that sounds really good... 20hp for $300 i thinks its a goods dealz...
id do it if i had a a 20vT

Thats just for a manifold. Big port heads are pretty expensive due to demand.

why did vw switch to small port heads? improve low end tq?
also why did all the large port heads and manifolds make it to the low output 150hp versions of the engines?

Thats my guess.

I think they realized for the HP/TQ they were putting into the cars with OE software that they were more efficient smaller.
The Motronic ECUs have become much more sophisticated even from the original AEBs.
