:err:wow I am in the Audi forums ... weird!!!!
well I purchased a 2003 a4 1.8t quattro B6.. stick:smile:
it is a sport edition black on black of course.... pick it up Friday after they fix a few little things for me.
so what are some quick cell free type mods to enhance the performance just a bit.
the car is completely stock and it is going to be my grocery getter so nothing extreme will happen to it..
oh and what good brands should I be looking at?
chip?
intake?
will they cause a cell?
exhaust tips....has chrome ones I want to replace or get re-chromed black chrome
it already has the sport suspension which is stiffer and has a 1'' drop I guess has new 17'' wheels with good tires.
pic of car..

Chip I'd go with APR, GIAC or Unitronic. All you'd have to either send the ECU away for or drive to NYC (GIAC/Unitronic) or Buffalo (APR) to the closest dealers....or wait until Fall Show n Go.
Intake, don't bother.
USOPHUNKE
10-02-2007, 04:00 PM
after the recent r32 hydrolocking issue the intake thing is a bit scary too...
?is there a way to tell when you vag a car if it has a chip? I would go apr prob they always seem to be on the safe side of stuff.
my first mod will be a snowboard rack and a child seat.
meatwad!!

recaro childseat FTW.
get a catback or somthin, glad you picked that up
USOPHUNKE

yeah I am glad too... the edition I have has a sport tuned exhaust from what I am told.

Yeah, just skip the downpipe to avoid CELs.
Salisbury Motor Car (http://www.salisburymotorcar.com) also has APR and is closer to Syracuse than Buffalo (although maybe you are starting somewhere else)

Of all the A4's that model year is my favorite. I really like the lines of that car.
All my 1.8t friends do the basic stuff - chip, exhaust, larger IC, short shift kit, suspension and brakes.
That alone seems to make them as fast/quick as a chipped 00 S4. You know, what are you looking for from the car? Improved performance while maintaining factory reliability?
Maybe you shouldn't do anything to the engine and improve the handling instead?

Sorry I just think the Audi A4 is too heavy for stock 1.8T, its a sweet car dont get me wrong, just think they are under powered. Should be an excellent daily/winter car though :icon_cool:

That's why you bought the Audi? Some boob beat you to it...guess you'll have to come up with a better one...for me I had to take a few laps around the circle below Auburn HS, but seems that my car is still under warranty, I won't ditch it.

Your Jetta was rated at 150hp, the Audi rated at 170hp (OE boost is slightly higher).
You will not be able to easily tell a vehicle is chipped via VAG-COM unless you do logging of requested vs actual boost, chip tuners are careful to try and hide all their changes in case issues arise and you take the car to the dealer.
USOPHUNKE
10-05-2007, 09:51 AM
my jetta is 170 too. but it seems completly different. the acceleration is smoother and much snappier. could be related to the stick. The dealer said that they scanned it and had no codes or signs of it being chipped. I would prefer not just due to the fact I would be even more assured it wasnt beat on. I do have the vehical history and p.o. name and address but dont know that I wanna bother them.

We can do a quick VAG-COM data log of actual vs requested boost to see what its doing if you like! Just LMK.
when I had my B6 w/ a 1.8T it was quick with minimal mods. Luved that POS!

yeah that wont work for me.....
So if anyone is wondering what I think of the car...
nothing but awsome. There really isnt a comparision to the mk4 vw I was driving. its ride handling power overall apearence and comfort is 1000 times better. I dont think I will buy a vw again other than the corrado. My next goal will be s4 I think... maybe in two years.
I smile when I get in my car.....finally

I test drove 4 bmw all 3 class but none that were awd. They are nice and handle very well. just scary to me if something goes wrong to work on myself. One reason I like the 1.8t is I am kinda used to it.

All that money you spent on your "Cable Guy" stickers (-8hp), you could have used towards...... an air freshener (+5hp) or some hand sanitizer to keep in your side pocket (+12hp).
Sweet.

VW spec is like 100K, but most people reccomend timig belt (and waterpump while you are there doing it) at 60K to 75K.... all depends on how conservative you want to be about it.

yeah I am going to buy the kit with the water pump "metal propeller style" and do it all at once. so maybe in 8 to 10 k I will do it... kinda middle the road.
Rich any idea of anything you can safely run through the engine to make sure you dont get any sludge in the head. I know synthetic, I plan on getting some through GAP. just curious if there is anything else you can do?

Your audi is most likely an AWM engine code, which I have in my 03 Passat.
I changed the timing belt, water pump with a metal impeller, and all belts and spark plugs with oil and all around brakes at 60k miles.
Its really easy on longitude 1.8t cars to do the timing belt, I was done it in a few hours. I have a B5 Passat Bentley which gives a really good diagram of the AWM motor and timing belt procedure if you ever want to borrow it to give you an idea.

I used Auto-RX (http://www.auto-rx.com/) on the V6 Passat and my VR6 and was very pleased with the results! My oil looks brand new on every change since. There was debate here on fd about this long ago and some people (like Stewie) think that dropping the pan and pulling the VC for manual cleaning is best. I think it's helpful, but won't clean inside all the passages from the pan to the valves. The only way to clean, imho, is to do an engine treatment like auto-rx. I think it does wonders to get a 1.8t to near new. You have no way of really knowing how your car was cared for by the po, so cleaning it now is a good idea.
The auto-rx should be run w/ dino oil and a large capacity filter (like RichB's new one only a cheapie). Then you need to run dino for a change or two after to flush the rest of the gunk and you are set! Search for info on the Tex... but remember, all anybody has are opinions (including me).
Also, part of the issues associated with sludge is the pcv system. I'm not sure how much the 1.8t system is affected, but my breather piping on the V6 was REALLY clogged with burnt oil byproduct. It might be worth it to remove the piping and inspect. I cleaned mine off the car with seafoam... I've heard mixed reviews about this product and I'm not a big fan.

10-13-2007, 09:39 AM
To not get sludging issues use the larger oil filter (OE or Mann), best oils and on schedule changes. best oils are those that meet VW's specs for the 1.8t (forget the numbers off the top of my head - see the vortex 1.8t forum faq for all sorts of oil info).
RichB
10-13-2007, 10:07 AM
I would go with what Stu and Kyle reccomended... Use VW 502 approved oils (Synthetic German Castrol, Pentosin, Motul, Elf, Lurbo Moly all make good oils that meet/exceed the spec). I have read good things about AutoRX as well... and on a used car, probably not a bad idea to give the engine a thorough clean.
USOPHUNKE
10-13-2007, 01:05 PM
I am going to try the auto rx stuff .... then get a good oil n filter... I need to get a manual for my car as it didnt come with one
