Any one have experience with this stuff? The hardware seems pretty straight forward but im not clear on what you inject and where you get it. Ive heard of people injecting washer fluid because it has some alcohol content and its readily available, but not sure if thats ideal.
Reason I am asking is because I found a group buy on a kit that is affordable and since it looks like it will be a while before I can get a short runner made... I was thinking about picking up one of these kits to play with. Should work well on these 100degree days, especially our drag day ;)
Here is the link to the kit on special:
$180 for basic kit:

$275 for progressive:

wiper fluid will vary by brand, but typically be 25-55% methanol. The 1.8t guys have discussed it a bunch...I'd search the 1.8t tech forums on vortex (archives too).

What Stu said.... have read and seen some very nice results on the 1.8T forum of folks using the USRT set-up. Thinking about doing it some day on the GTI (someday when I get the KO4 on the car).

I read that people use "Heat" in the bottle... I think it's gas line anti-freeze.
Best results will be from Methanol, but other products work, too. I spoke with a guy that had the set-up on his Supra... he has the progressive kit tied to his boost controller to meter the flow based on boost levels. Also, he has a safety shut-off so when the tank is empty it reverts to primary mapping so not to cause internal damage by the boost and fuel mapping for alchy injection w/o the alchy! It's a sweet set-up... very failsafe oriented.

yeah, if theres a group buy could you post a link?
I have been interested in this for a long time, and like you guys were mentioning, that night that was chilly at around 40 deg reminded me how much power is there but wasted due to my lack of cooling.

I'd say that getting the throttle body away from the hot exhaust and turbo would drop temps quite a bit. I need a short runner too, but they are all $400 and over :embarrassed:

Im gonna talk with Joes room mate Mike about making a short runner, hopefully we can work something out :)
Still thinking about picking this up in the mean time, the progresive controller will work with my widebands map sensor so i can save some money there.
I really need to get my wideband repaired so i can get that back in the car...

Ok so I decided that I am going with the Devils Own setup. I Just ordered it. spur of the moment kind of thing. I didn't get the progressive kit though just the basic, I am using it as sort of a failsafe since I have a front mount intercooler. I also ordered header wrap for the down pipe and heat reflection cover thats going over my home made heat shield. The under hood temps on a turbo VR are just outrageous. I am really going to try to combat heat transfer and intake temperatures.
A short runner intake is on my priority list my cousin is an expert welder and has a few tig machines, he is just really busy
