I got myself a T3/T4 turbonetics turbo that needs a rebuild kit today in the mail. It has a .48 A/R I think on the hotside with a 5 bolt discharge. Wondering if I could swap a garrett 4 bolt .81 A/R housing or something around that size for my VR6? Can you merge two different turbocharger parts like turbonetics and garrett?

Yeah you can. Garret and Turbonetics usually have the same housings. You have to make sure you stay with the same wheel trim though. For example if its just a standard stage 1 wheel, you need a standard stage one housing. If its a stage III for example you need a stage III housing, etc. You might have to measure you wheel to find out what you have for sure.

T3s are .48,.63 or .84 A/R.
A .81 A/R would be a T4 hot side, that wouldn't work, you have to stick with a T3 housing.
