I pretty much just got a Holset HX35 turbo brand new for next to nothing. Thinking about running this on the VR6 or selling it. It has a 4inch intlet 2 inch outlet and a 3 inch discharge. I think its a T3 or T4 bolt flange too. Externally gated. Anyone heard of running these on a VR6 or even a 1.8t or am I better off selling?

(I think) It's off a dodge diesel correct? If you decide to sell it I think I'd be interested in buying that from you for my turbo diesel project.

It might be tough if you are using an off the shelf manifold even though it is a T3 flange. They are physically big and shaped different that the Garret turbos most manifold are made for. The HX35 is on par with a SC61 and would work on a VR or 1.8. If you sell it let me know, I'm looking for one for my BMW.

damn...that'd be fun on the mTDI mk1 :(

Anyways...that particular holset should def. be a t3/4 flange, probably split flange which is something maybe Ryan was getting at above? should be vband on the discharge side as well! I wonder what app it is specifically from as well to determine the turbine housing size (Holset likes cm measurements vs. A/R ) Very nice. It would be nicely sized for the apps above noted. Use on the mTDI would take a bit of "hybrid" work with another holset, but it'd be impressive...

Yup its V-Band discharge flange, and its factory turbo for the 5.9l cummins turbo diesel. It also has a divided inlet. and a 12cm^2 housing
I am thinking about this for my VR6T since I have a 57 trim T3/T4 with a 5 bolt discharge on now, which I think is a bit on the small side for a VR6 although it spools up quickly

Here is a Holset on a Mk1 1.9l tdi

heh heh... I know the car :). I believe...that one is blakes. Familar with him, have talked with him several times, he and Deo both have mTDI's. Anyways... I believe his is a hybrid setup where he had to have one size of the housing machined, etc. Could be wrong though, its been a while.

The 12cm does sound like it'd be a bit small for the gas app that you'd like to use it on...but it would spool up like crazy :) Fun stuff! Somewhere I've been gradually compiling some finds on Holset compressor maps (which they don't "publish" easily) and I think I have one for the HX series....

Someday I'll have a holset on the car :) just not in the $$$ this year...
