saw a peugeot in b-ville...

a couple days ago i was getting off 481 onto rte 31 near b-ville and I pull up behind a friggin Peugeot at the stop light. I thought that was the strangest thing because I know they didnt sell them in north america...and I thought it was illegal to import a vehicle that isnt approved for used in north america. Has anyone else seen a peugeot driving around here? It looked like a late 80's or early 90's car.

Actually they did sell them in the US, thought I believe that stopped in the early 80s.

If the car was indeed newer than that, the car could have been imported through a registered importer, could be a diplomat's car (I've seen a euro spec Mk3.5 cabrio TDI in DC area), or an illegally registered Canadia import, or maybe other things.

Nope IIRC they kept selling them until 1990 or 1991. The last cars they sold here were the 405.

IMHO the 505 diesel wagon was one of the best wagons ever made.

Was at the train station in Albany yesterday and saw a nice 405 white wagon in the parking garage.

I lived about 20 minutes from the Peugeot factory in France for six months. They give tours with all the old rally cars in the museum. Definitely a cool company, and one of the smallest automotive manfacturers in the world! The produce Citroen as well, I believe.

I really like Peugeot.... We had an 82 505 turbo diesel sedan that was awesome! Had like 300k miles when we traded it it.. A real looker of a car, too. White with blue intertor, looked better than the Beamers of the time.
There was a brown 81 505 wagon at a dealership I fell in love with when I was like 10. It had a wooden floored trunk.
There is a foreign car dealership in Wilmington, NC (where I'm from) that still has a bunch of Peugeot memorabilia and dealership stuff. He usually has like 2 on the lot also.....
