Hey guys:

first of all, i'm a member in dubR (Rochester based), I was visiting my friend in Syracuse yesterday when this all happened, my car is locked up in syracuse right now and i need the car fixed soon :( Boostin20V referred me to this board. Below is the message i posted on dubR.

==============Start====================
"Long day today, me and a bunch of my friends went to a friend's place in Syracuse, I took my car there. After we were done and ready to come back to rochester, i start up my car and the car stutterss just like every other cold day and cold start. I start rolling and as soon as I step on the gas slowly, the car sounds like a harley motorcycle with a crazy "grrrrrrrrrr" sound AND crazy loud backfires when i let off the gas. At low rpms and at full stop, the car vibrates a lot with RPM staying at 800 mark. I only went quarter of a mile and decided to keep my car there.

While everything i said above was happening, the CEL kept blinking and stayed on. so i went back and parked it at my friend's place. it was 2AM, no tools, no vagcom or anything so I just couldn't do anything.

i had some maintenance works done by CDI recently (this tuesday) and they were;
1. Spark plugs (OEM plugs)
2. New downpipe (Milltek 2.5")
3. Oil change
and some other miscellaneous stuff

the car was running FINE before 2am today however, my car hit limp mode for the first time ever this morning. (no cel, restarted the car and it was fine hitting correct boost level)

Assuming coil packs? I have switched them to the latest version under factory recall long time ago.

Any guesses or advices?

it's been a very long day, i got into my friend's audi a4 on the way back just now, and we had a ****ing flat tire on I-90 between exits 42-43. his factory jack tools were bent and not working + lots of waiting for the tow truck guy with tools and it was way too cold and snowing/sleeting outside

please help me out. if any of you have or know one that has VAGCOM in syracuse (it's right by Syracuse university), i would be VERY much appreciated.

===================END======================
Thanks!

I need someone with VAGCOM + necessary tools to help me out, i'm NOT a good mechanic. The car is really low so towing to a nearby dealership and others would be a big hassle. I would like to get it fixed on site preferrably. Any of you 1.8T mechanic gurus, please help me out, i'm really upset right now :(

The car is 2003 1.8T GTI and it has about 45K miles on the clock, as mentioned above, i recently had an oil change, spark plug change and a new downpipe installed (from Milltek 3" down to 2.5"). Furthermore, the car is chipped, DV, ECS N75 race valve, CAI, full milltek turbo back'd.

I hope someone could really help me out.

hey matt, thanks first of all.
right now i'm back in rochester, but i can be there today since one of my friend will be going to syracuse anyway. However, do you have some parts like maybe coilpacks? I can't go anywhere for parts right now, if you think you can fix it today or tommorow, i can be there whenever you wish.

i stock coil packs and mass airflow sensors for 1.8t's, tomarrow would be your best bet for me to look and or fix it. call in the morning!

I don't mean to push you or anything but is there anyway we could do this today? my friend is going to syracuse today in just 1-3 hours so i can be there by 5-7.

i haven't had a chance to inspect my coilpacks as I could only think of MAF as the reason, it could be a simple quick fix. (coilpacks popped out etc..)

sorry and thank you very much!

i can be there between 4~5PM, you think you can have a look at the car then? Till when are you going to be working? I could also wait at my friend's place there.

I think if its a soft cell it will clear itself after like 50 miles or something....
