does anyone run 17x8.5 rims? I have some 17x8.5's and i want to know if it is possible to run them on a mk4 without tire stretch...i realize i may have to stretch a little bit in the front

For no stretch, you should go with a 235 wide tires on 8.5" rims. As long as you are not lowered alot, they will not rub (certainly should not on the rear, the only chance is on the front... the offset of the wheel is important to know here to help figure that out).

I know guys who are running 255 on MKIVs without rubbing, but they are on none lowered sport suspension set-ups like the Shine real street set-up.

i have a tokico 1.5" drop suspension...its not too extreme of a drop...i wouldnt go much lower than that
