I'm sure someone here could help you do the install. Sears @ Shoppingtown for the alignment, but only if your not so low you can't get on the machine... right Pete? :)

i got mine done at Burdick VW...its an expensive hourly rate...however, since they deal only with VW's they get it done quick and they do it right...i have gone to other shops and they tend to be reluctant about doing alignments on my VW

Wanted to try and avoid a dealer to have aftermarket work done...when you take this kind of stuff to the dealer they keep records. I'm not sure if it is shared with other vw dealers. I have an 07 gti. Nervous about warranty...I asked them about changing spark plugs and they told me that if anything ever happened to the engine it was possible they could blame the plugs since they weren't OE. Just imagine what they will say about shocks and spings.

i agree with you when it comes to modding any part of the drivetrain...however, i dont see how they could use a aftermarket suspension as an arguement to void the warranty to the drivetrain...besides, if you take it in for warranty work they will notice the aftermarket suspension anyhow

Try Pete, VWTuning, we rent a spot at a shop and he does side work to pay for the rent. I'm not sure if he's done MKV before.

Erik, if you need the "special tools" let me know, as I have all of them.

You need:
triple square set
pinch clamp expander
special strut nut wrench

Erik,

I also have the pinch clamp expander and strut nut wrench (assuming those are the same as used on the MIV) if you need those. From what I have seen, the install looks pretty similar to the MKIV so it should not be that hard.

Also forgot to mention . . . be sure to pick up two new axle bolts ($5 each) . . . and IIRC they require a 24mm socket.

Thanks guys...now I'm thinking while I'm at it might do the rear sway bar too...thinking neuspeed as well on that...but maybe H&R...like the teflon idea with the HR...I've heard the neuspeed is a little better for some reason...

X2. Ask for Tom at Sears, he will do exactly what you want for the alignment. No problem with my lowered B5 Passat.

I've always dealt with Bryant at Sears, he drives one of them fancy Neons and loves to talk cars. Came and talked to me in the waiting room for a good part of his shift when he could. Good guy, and I know he let Pete drive his car onto the lift.

IIRC, Bryant writes up the order and Tom does the work. Both are car guys.

Buying the new axle bolts...but was thinking might as well get all new bolts everywhere that has to be touched...good idea or way overkill? I did lose my mind a little today...decided to order an APR dp, rear sway bar, pflow intake also...that should do it for a while on the MKV...think I might just go out to Salisbury motor car...its a bit of drive...but think I might just let them do everything all at once while its up on the lift...he told me around $300-400 for everything with the alignment. What do you think about the bolts though?

I think thats overkill. Normally I would recomend strut bearings too, but IIRC your car is brand new.

Assuming its the same as the MK4 I can do the suspension install for $100, another $25-$50 for the rear sway depending how long it takes. Alignment will run ya about $75 at sears and comes with a 6 month warranty :icon_tup: If you can leave the car with me for an afternoon I can take care of all of this for ya.

There's only one more set of bolts, and it's the 3 small 13 mm bolts on the top on each side.

They're like $.75 each . . . They're labeled as one-time bolts too so I'd probably replace those as well.

The only other bolt is the one that helps secure the strut in the steering knuckle and it is merely a pinch bolt. No need to replace.

BTW, I own you. That is all.

Strut bearings are completely diff on this car. Instead of the wimpy 1.5-2" units found on the MKIVs & etc, the MKVs use ones that are about 5" in diameter.

It's for a MKIV, not a MKV

I hate to say it, but, Dave is right , it's for a MKV...but thanks anyway...everything is ordered...hopefully this will keep me happy for a while...I can't wait...its going to be a week or two before the stuff gets here so I have some time to figure out how and who I'm going to have the stuff put on...I wasn't go to do this much all at once...but...every once in a while...you just have to go a little crazy!

Just ordered the Robert Bentley Manual for the MKV Rabbit/GTI...didn't really want to spend the money ($85 after shipping) but I figured with all the other money I'm spending on the car it would be a small cost to actually have all the info I need at the tips of my fingers...ohh and by the way it is on CD not paper form
