I'm getting hella pissed. I can't get one screw out of the rear spoiler mounting assembly and it's driving me nuts!! The nut seems to be fused to the screw and it won't budge. The nut is held in a plastic mounting base and it started spinning in the plastic as I turned the screw. I finally found a way to get vice grips on the plastic to try to hold the nut, but to no avail! I even busted out the impact driver and was affraid to hit it any harder. The nut still spins and my next step is to trim down the plastic around the nut and get the grips directly on the nut. But there's only so much torque I can put through a phillips head screw driver.
The screw...

The nut w/ vice grips clamped so hard I'm affraid to take them off!...

Before I go cutting away at this, anybody have any ideas or suggestions? Yes, I did drown it in PB several times on the nut and the screw sides. I've also tried using just silicone spray lube. It really seems like the nut and screw are welded together.
hahaha I said "nut" and "screw"!

If you decided to cut the plastic off don't worry about your spoiler falling off. I've been missing the plastic around one of the nuts on mine for a couple years now. I think it's a pretty ghetto design, IMHO...
Sorry I'm no more help than that...

drill out the screw if you can get a drill in there on the back side...

I'm not worried about the plastic... I can put a longer bolt in and use a washer on the back side. I just hate hacking up sh*t on my ride. I've done it enuff!!
Drilling is something I'm seriously considering. However, it is impossible to get a drill up inside the tailgate, so I'd just carefully drill the head off the screw. That might actually be easier than cutting the plastic and situating the grips on the nut. BTW, the vice grips BARELY fit up in there! I was lucky to get them on in the first place.

I would try and drill out the head as well, seems like the best bet.
These types of things suck, but man it feels good when ya finally get it, and im sure ya will! :icon_cool:

Do you have air or elect impact? I use mine on screws like this all the time. Like rotor set screws, etc. I know it sounds rediculous but it really works. The same goes for allen head bolts on waterpumps, etc. It will always get them out and not strip.

I have an air impact, but I have no idea how to put a screw driver bit in it. I did use my impact driver...

...but I'm affraid to hit it any harder. It works GREAT on screw n' stuff on heavy components (ie. the rusted on screw that holds your brake rotor to the hub)! I'll see if I can't find a 1/2" socket that will hold the screwdriver bit.
I'd love to avoid cutting & drilling... but I'm starting to run outa hair to pull out! Maybe I'll swing by the autoparts store on the way home to get something to work for the screw bits.

Doesn't that bit holder come off the end of the hand impact? I thought they were 1/2 drive..maybe not.
I have a bit holder from my air rachet(weird one) that I use. Worth a shot before drilling but I wouldn't spend too much time on it.

hhhhmmmmmm.... it might come off. I don't know. I got this cheapy @ H.F., so something is telling me it won't come off. I've spent enough time on this so far so it's gonna come out tonight one way or another. The only good thing is that I get to buy another tool!
