What to do? I absolutely love this car, its just a work of art. It has about 200HP stock, I need about triple that. So what would you so power wise?
Requirements:
Scary acceleration is my bag
Run deep 10 sec 1/4s in street trim with potential for single digits..
remain stock looking for the most part.
Be as reliable as a VW
Have full comfy interior
Be quiet inside the car, F everybody else.
Lift front tires off the ground with slicks  this is a goal of mine, LOL
be an all around monster with manners.
The s14 is really expensive to build up, just maintenance parts are stupid money. IE $800 for timing set parts. Valves are $70 a peice. It also has a rep for being finicky..this could be just BMW wussies also though. They are the wussiest I've run accross to date. I'm considering going with a LS1 swap. I really like the motor, its light powerful and has tons of potential. I could also do a M5 engine with FI or stick it out wth the S14 and turbo that..

whats the manifold situation like? possible to do dual turbo setup? twin gt35Rs?
Nuksucow

I vote for the LS1 swap, cheap easy power that should easily meet the goals you have. You could always turbo the LS1 if allmotor isn't enough:eek:
BUNNYLOVE
12-02-2006, 12:13 AM
With the LS1 twin Gt35s could work for sure. I'm definetly leaning towards it, I've been itching to work with that motor.

What about one really large turbo fed by both headers? There was a silverado I saw online running that setup making over 1000whp I think.

Here is an E30 with an LS6 transplant. Its tight, but super clean

S14s aren't super finicky...but you are correct, very expensive. 300hp out of one costs at least $15k. Take a gander a www.s14.net to get an idea of what people have dropped in. I know there is an NA s50 transplant, a twin turbo s50 transplant, quite a few turbo s14s in progress Along with a few NA LS1/6s. Some have started to put the S54 from the E46 M3s in also but that is just as expensive (more so) than the S14.
I like the high revving nature of the S14 and wring it out to 8k whenever i can. Mine decided that it had a penchant for rod bearings and had the rods replaced along with the head ported and rebuilt. It is running a piggy back Alpha N system and I estimate power to be in the 220+ range right now. Cams and an airbox should bring it closer to 250-260 crank. not a lot of power, but the handling makes up for it.

S14.net is great, I found my fenders and bumper on there.
I'm still considering my options. I may refresh and turbo charge the S14. For right now I'm just going to get it up and driving again. It needs ALOT of attention all around.

very sweet that this is going to happen. I would def go ls1 just for cost to hp... you cant beat it.

So it sounds like you already have the roller/complete car? i wanna hear some details
BUNNYLOVE
12-19-2006, 12:05 PM
I bought it locally from a friend a few months ago. Its been sitting for 4-5 years since an accident. Its an '88 Diamondschwartz with tan interior. Its a complete car and it should run, it just hasn't since the accident. The damage is mainly on the passenger side front corner. It needs a hood, core support, bumper, PS fender and paint. I bought a pair of EVO fenders and a used bumper cover but that is as far as I've got so far.
My goal is to get the frontend stripped down this winter ready for bodywork and also get it cleaned out overall.

glad to see that car went to someone who knows what they are doing. I had toyed with the thought of purchasing that car earlier this fall.
My vote goes for using a BMW Motor, but it's probabally hard to get that motor into the single digits...

I just had back surgery last month. I was pretty much immobile for last few months, so that slowed quite a bit. I'm just starting to gather stuff for the E30.

Wow, those are sweet! No major progress in a while but its getting there slowly.
I have the front end all off and the core support removed. I tossed the carpet and have the sound deadening 50% scraped out. I'm hoping to get some body parts this fall so I can get that part done this winter.

I figured I would post an update. No pics yet but they are coming..
I got a bunch of stuff from Karl including the rad. support with partial frame rails. I needed that because part of the inner fender well is wrinkled up.
I also got a nice hood, tail lights, black door panels, kick panels and other various plastic trim.
I have the dash and entire interior out of the car. The floors are 90% stripped. I have a couple spots to sand blast. I have a to get the car spun 180% so I can weld up the two floor patches and get ready to do the rad support. After that it will be painted with rust prohibitive paint, sound deadened and re assembled.
I pulled a really nice carpet from Myers Rd. this weekend. I got it all out in one piece with no cuts or tears. It was 1 million times easier than the M3 carpet to remove. The M3 carpet has a bonded pad that is like 4" thick in spot. I spent several hours cutting it out. The pad was separate on this 325 carpet so it slide out pretty easily. The carpet peed on Brent a little on the way out, LOL. Thanks for the help! It is a little funky but it will clean up really nice. I also scored another dash piece and black arm rests. This was all $13 too. I was about to pay $250for a used carpet with roll bar holes...
I also got a huge Greddy intercooler on ebay. There are so many junk chinese ICs flooding ebay that the good quality stuff gets lost. Good for me :). I will build the IC into the front end from the start while everything is off that way I can weld up the brackets, etc. I have no idea what engine will be in it yet but it will have a turbo. (leaning towards a BMW 2.5L 24v right now) I'm going to pull the original engine/trans and store it in the basement. I

sweet glad to see this one is on the agenda again...I like the idea of a turboed 2.5 you should be able to do it pretty cheap ....what kind of power do you think is reasonable?
BUNNYLOVE
02-19-2008, 03:38 PM
I have that S50 for it that needs a minor rebuild, etc. I'll probably drop that in NA, break it in and then turbo it next year. I have an HX40 for it already. This is assuming of course that I can get the engine in and have the car driveable this summer. Should be interesting with the E36 M3 engine, trans and a 4.10 rear.

WHOA...it looks like they have the turbo sucking air in right through the hole where the one headlight was...no filter or anything! It seems like that would suck in bugs...pebbles and dirt...or anything. If you actually drove it around much like that I think the engine could get ruined pretty quick.

I bought another engine. A complete running vanos M50. I'm going to clean it up and dump it in. I'm going to turbo it from the start too so I can mockup the turbo header, down pipe and stuff before the engine bay is painted and finished.

Ryan you gonna run standalone? Or the stock computer?
If standalone I think vanos is just a solenoid so you can just turn it on and off with a signal, RPM dependent etc. I'd be interested to see how it works with a turbo too.
BUNNYLOVE
03-20-2008, 03:32 PM
I'll be running standalone of some sort for sure. I'm gonna see how I like the megasquirt on Pete's rabbit. If I like it I will probably go that route since it works with the factory crank trigger and coils pretty nicely.
It *should* be relatively simple to control the vanos on this engine with a rpm output. I believe its just on/off also.

Still no pics. I took some I just haven't put them online yet. The front end is almost done, I welded in the rad support last weekend. I will fix the front inner fender next.. its all ready to go I just need time. Until this summer comes I have very little time to do anything on this car. I have all of the body parts needed to finish that part. I hope to get the body work started this fall.
I decided to go with AEM for engine management and a M&W Pro14 for the ignition. I was going to do megasquirt but I really wanted a sequencial system and AEM is chock full of bells and whistles. It has a built in wideband and traction control among other things.
I didn't buy the plug and play BMW version ($3k) though I'm going to make my own harness and PNP ECU adapter. I have 3 engine harnesses to I might bag the PNP part. Its an engine swap anyways so it might get too messy.. we shall see. I will be building the entire map from the ground up so it should be a challenge. I've done it onI'm going to use the stock BMW coils (COP) in a wasted spark config.

YOU can afford them, LOL.. Looking for about $400 for them. You will need to make mounts to bolt them in. The sliders are flat with four mounting holes so it shouldn't be too hard, just like mounting a a universal type seat.
I have all the wiring for the power and heat with the switches, I'll toss in. I have a Bentley also you could use for that.
