Ayuda! Por favor tipos.
Hey Hey, I have a question for you all. I'm replacing the winter wheels and tires on my car. I'm buying the wheels and tires NEW. I don't want used wheels. I'm sick of them being out of balance. I had those Fox Sports or whatever from TireRack, and I've had 6 of them so far... they're about as hard as butter. I drive to Syracuse, Manhattan, and Vermont. I need something rugged. I'm getting the same snows, which I love. They're Pirelli snows. So... any suggestions on some 17 inch aftermarket wheels (available on TireRack, preferably) that can stand up a little better than the current wheels?
Just give me a brand, you don't have go pick out wheels.
I've only had 4 sets of wheels ever... so, I'm not very good at this. Thanks!
P.S. 6 dented 17 inch wheels and 4 snowtires (2 with sidewall bubbles!) free to a good home... haha. I promise.. none of you want these pieces of junk.

i've had the borbets on my car since i bought my first passat. they've been fairly bullet-proof. they're 15s and pretty old (vinnie's family bought them for the E-Green passat) but they've held up well. If they bought them when they bought the car, as the records seem to point out, they have 200000ish miles on them.

I'd get the ASA JH3s. $119 each on tirerack. ASA is partnered with BBS and uses BBS technology in their wheels, so they should be solid. Next pick would be the Borbet CA's, but at $145 a wheel, it isn't worth it. Plus I think the ASA's look better.
Stay away from the AT italias and Rials on Tirerack . . . . soft too.
OZs, SSRs are expensive and also fragile.

Is this for the R??? If you can find a set of 16" that will fit, that may be your best bet. The extra sidewall will hold up better to rough winter roads and the wheels will less likely get damaged as well.

16"s won't fit over the brakes

if you want something strong, go steel... anything aluminum is gonna be more brittle when it gets colder out.... IMO
and Dave is right.... 16" rims won't fit over the calipers... some 17"s won't either, it depends on the offset

okay... I didn't ask for size suggestions. But thanks. I already have winter wheels and know about the fact that 17s are the smallest wheels that will clear the brakes. And I know what offset will clear the brakes. I asked for a brand. That's it. I got a few suggestions. Thank you.
veedubboostn... you know where I can order full width 17 inch steels for my car? I've been trying to get them made for like a year, but I can only find a place to custom make them, because I can't find any 17 inch center on a full width barrel. (Also, they make 17 inch steels for SUVs, etc, but they are very heavy, and the wrong bolt pattern. I know this.)
thnx

NO advice Jackie... but if this statement is true  then airplans better not fly!

Finz-- when I'm done getting this Aerospace Engineering degree from SU I'm going make a plane that you can fly in all year round! I promise.
Can you even buy "Aluminum" wheels? Aren't they aluminium alloy? meaning aluminum + something else. I've never had a spoke snap off because it was cold.
I guess my best bet is to go have a solid block of steel cnc'ed into a wheel? easy and lightweight.
Adam-- you can have them... when I'm done driving on them. They're still on my car until I figure out what I'm getting, and get it. But after that, all yours.
This thread has gotten ridiculous. ...sigh...

Thanks Jackie, i'm always lookin out for 17" snow tires with slightly more tread than the ones that I am planning on risking my life on this winter.
If I were lookin for really string wheels for pothole banging I would try and find some compomotives or something rally wheels tend to be pretty tough, if heavy.
