I'm having a hard time finding anyone who can explain to me the difference between DSP and Monsoon amps. I believe that DSP is separate than the standard Monsoon amp as you need special wiring for DSP. This option is not available in the US but can be found in Europe with VW OEM systems. Can anyone explain this all to me?
Here is an interesting website that carries much of the wiring.

and something cool if you have a full FIS.

My Delta 6 (European double din unit) has DSP modes and they do work in my Monsoon based GTI... hence the DSP mods have to be in the head unit.
I thought all monsoon signified was the external amp (maybe different driverss, but I'm not sure about that).

With the MFD navi it's a little more complicated as there is no DSP button. I believe that it is a separate amp that is connected to the navi.

doesn't DSP stand for Digital Signal Processing which means that there is a digital instead of analog signal? I do know the monsoons amp is a four channel and the speakers in the system are of better quality than the standard unit.

While DSP does stand for Digital Signal Processing... this is processing that is generally done on one chip which works with analog in and anolog out. Many of the chips generate these effects using digital delay lines.... so they do not quite do a true A to D and then D to A.
OK, so the point is, the audio outputs from a Monsoon or non Monsoon double Din head unit are analog and the Monsoon amp has analog in. If it wasn't, when you VAGed the head unit to change things around (speaker level or line level outputs), som rather interesting noises would be comming out of the speakers (I know this becuase I have played around with these settings in both my Passat (non monsson) and GTI Monsoon)). The Bentley verifies this. The Monsoon amp is a 4 channel amp, and the head units of course output RF. LF, RR, and LR line level signals.
My best guess is that if the Radio and the cluster are coded properly, the radio should pass along vis the K bus, DSP modes.

I found a brief synopsis of the DSP system but it involves a lot of extra parts and rewiring.
