Well, it kind of slipped out already but I am getting a new car. It is much cheaper than the GTI but still a fun car to drive. I am still waiting for the car to arrive at port, should be here in December some time. I chose the car because it will save me money and get better gas mileage but also be fun just not as fast of a car but I don't need that for a daily driver. Lets see if anyone can guess what it is based on this comparison, The car I am buying vs. MK1 Rabbit:

MK1 Rabbit
Wheelbase 94.4 inches
Overall Length 155.3 inches
Vehicle Height 53.2 inches
Vehicle Width 63.3 inches
Curb Weight 1865 lbs
HP: 90 hp @ 5500 rpm
Torque: 100 ft-lbs @ 3000 rpm
Power/weight: .048 hp/lb

"New car"
Wheelbase 96.9 inches
Overall Length 150.6 inches
Vehicle Height 60.0 inches
Vehicle Width 66.7 inches
Curb Weight 2290 lbs
HP: 106 hp @ 6000 rpm
Torque: 103 lb.-ft. @ 4200 rpm
Power/weight: .046 hp/lb

Ok, so you got a Yaris liftback . . .

How much did you end up losing on the deal? Doesn't seem like switching between the beetle, gti and now the yaris within the span of a year is that good of an idea if you're trying to get finances under control.

Didn't think anyone would guess that quick.

I hardly lost anything at all, I traded the beetle because of the accident and it not being fixed right, but I got a hell of a deal on the GTI and I am in decent shape on that now.

But if I don't sell the GTI now, by spring I will owe more than its worth because of how fast VW is releasing model years, my car is already a model year old and I have only had it for 7 months. I am not paying off the car fast enough but because I got a deal on it I am under the 1st year depreciation. I tried to sell it for about two months but i got offers less than what I needed and I wasn't going to come up with cash out of my pocket to pay off the loan. Plus trading it in helped as I don't have to pay sales tax on the new car.

I am not trying to get my finances under control really, I can afford the GTI and more. I am just trying to get a practical car to drive for a few years and VW daily drivers haven't worked out for me because I seem to sell them after a year or less. I have the rabbit so I just need an A to B car that I don't want to mod or anything. I rushed into buying this and it took doing so to realise what I really need, I guess you learn from your mistakes.

I suck at the internet:rofl:

I should get it in December sometime, hopefully sooner than later.

My only complaint is no tach in the hatch back but I guess an econo box that doesn't have ABS or a rear defrost doesn't need a tach either.

I wanted a car that I don't want to mod, but wheels and suspension are looking awesome and cheap to do.

My bad, just had to check. I know they told me NY requires some cold weather package on all cars which basically upgrades the battery and alternator along with rear heat and in there was the rear defrost add on. But it is an option else where which I thought was weird. The no ABS suprised me aswell, I thought that was required on almost everything. Its about as stripped down as a car can get in todays world, now if an auto maker would sell the same thing in the US with 150+HP.

Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.... I've been there myself.. drove practical cars for many years. The yaris is a neat little car and should give you many years of economical trouble free service while giving you a chance to build up the Rabbit the way you want. :icon_tup:

No tach with a manual tranny is not much fun, but speaking from first hand expirence you will get used to it. In my case I just listened to the general level of racket that was going on under the hood.

I don't understand the tach deal, Canada gets it in the hatchback and the US gets it in the sedan. I know what you mean Rich, there isn't a whole lot of sound deadening in the car so you can hear everything:laugh: I could always install one or I'm sure some company will come out with a kit for it.

I'm sure you could find a Yaris enthusiest site (the elantra has one!) and find a way to swap in the canadian/us sedan cluster.

IMHO any enuthsiest should stop kidding themselves and realize they will always mod a car....

I already found a yaris site with some good stuff. Most people have installed aftermarket tachs which I think is a little much but better than nothing. They also have a crazy expensive TRD gauge cluster package but way too much money for me.

I accept modding a car, its just hard to do two cars at the same time and have money left:smile: I will probably limit it to suspension which is really cheap and some nice euro style wheels, they look really clean like that.
