Since the mornings are getting colder I have noticed a cold start problem, it takes a few cranks to get it going....and I have also noticed that when it does start it makes a odd "Popping or Thumping" noise, but after it warms up it runs great. Also, coming from a stop into 1st, it is very sluggish, I mean almost like it its not Clutching Properly in 1st and this makes the Dash rattle pretty bad, but after 1st it is fine and at an idle it doesnt shake or vibrate.

Any Ideas?

quick fix, let it warm up before you drive.... its old, and thats what I did when I owned it... (did that to me back when I had it)

p.s. I found a key in my toolbox that was labeled "RED 86' GTI", might be yours... and I'll give it to you when we meet:smile:

so you don't open it at all..?? just hop into the hatch, take the little cover off the back of the hatch, then just move the metal rod one way or the other to get it open, and swap out the latch/push button deal, it was working when I had it.

or does the push button on the outside work, you just can't lock it..?? you can change that also
