Although I've heard you can get the same thing on ebay for much cheaper.

I got mine straight from Laminex. I know nothing about the ebay stuff. I applied mine myself. The kit came with instructions and a small squeegee. Worked pretty well, but I did have a couple small blemishes from moving them around while I thought they were still wet. One went away and the others are very hard to see. I don't care, it's well worth it for the protection!

Pete, let me know what you end up getting, I'll be wanting to do this w/mine as well (I drove them last year in the winter w/no ill effects so far.) But peace of mind would be nice :)

Also, just ran into this (http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2648033) thread that is making me re-think my thought of getting some...
I would get clear if anything. Dave, What did you find on ebay that was similar?

yup... you're retarded!
The site changed since I last visited and I had trouble finding the online store too... Click the "Store" button at the top of the page on the right. It's stoopid and not very intuitive.
Here is a link (http://store.lamin-x.com/) if you can't stop being retarded.
I was able to install it myself. RichB did also. Just read the instructions well b4 starting, and once you start... move quickly to get it where you want it.
After reading Todd's link, I'd recommend the clear. I'd hate to see a line of clear around the smoked laminex or a brown finish on your car.

I think mine is the 40mil. I bought mine via the clearbra.com website... some type of stuff as laminx as I understand it.
I did insitall one set myself, has not happy with the results though and had Bruce @ CNY window tint install a new set on the HIDs.
Tips I have learned since installing mine:
- Were latex cloves... don't want to be getting your fingerprints on the adheavsive like I did
- Heat gun to warm up the material and the lens
- Mixture of distilled H2o and a couple drops of dish soap to allow things to slide around a bit before the adheasive bites.

Wow I'm surprised you had so many issues with yours. My experience was completely the opposite. Lamin-x gives you tabs that you can use to position the film & etc, so I had no issues with fingerprints.
I didn't need a heat gun (and my headlights are more curved than yours)
I actually used a mixture of H2O and quick detailer. I used a LOT of it. I wet down the film as well as the headlight and that gave a very nice boundary layer so the film wouldn't stick to the glass immediately.
No air bubbles or hazing in my install. Only downside is that the cuts where I removed the tabs are a bit rough.

I got the 40 mil and am thinking it was a bit over kill. Just didn't want to risk damage. The heat gun is a pretty good idea IMHO. I think you could install them yourself, Pete, but get a pro if you feel you must.

I'm just a re-tard I guess (see pics of wrecked car)... maybe just the diff between the expel stuff (no tabs - maybe thicker?) and the Laminx.
I useds as much as water/achahol solution as I could... completely saturated the film and headlight - used a heat gun... which did help soften up the material. Still managed get some small portion of finger prints at a couple of points along the edges and a couple of air bubbles.

I think that's merely the difference in materials.
IIRC xpel is a thin urethane (harder, less flexible), whereas lamin-x is vinyl based.
I think when i yank off this 3m clear bra, I'll be giving lamin-x a shot with their clear bra.
The 3m stuff doesn't impress me too much after one year of having it on.

This thread got me thinking I should do the legacy front end. Any recommendations for an installer?

Though I'm afraid to recommend anyone after what Dave went through with the Tint shop in Rochester, I'll will mention Bruno @ CNY Solar Protection (located at 5 Star). He did my lower (20AE GTI) valance this spring (Xpel clearbra). He did a very good job for me and his prices were reasonable. His number is 422-0200.
Jeff down @ Franklin's were my GTI is being worked on is going to be putting on the same clear bra on some of my new body panels... says he can do it and has done it before. I'm providing the kit, he is going to put it on. Should be another good source for putting these film's on.

im gonna order the lamin-x (with tabs :P) next week and I will let everyone know how the product looks (quality wise) and also how the install goes. I think I'm just gonna go with the 20mil.
Thanks for all the feedback!

I've heard that it's best to buy a sheet and cut it yourself since the pre-cut ones don't cover as much as you'd like it to.
