So I'm going to order my paint from paintscratch.com today and had a quick question. I was looking at their site last night and it didn't say anything about thinning the paint before you use it. But I think that I have heard from some of you, and maybe someone not on here, that you have to thin it out with paint thinner before you use it. Do you?

And I'm just painting 2 doors, a trunk, and some touch up spots on my car (maybe the lower half of one door. Could I get away with buying a pint?

i think paintscratch is touch up paint, not put in a gun and spray it paint

but talk to someone that has painted before,

id suggest checking out a paint store like saves on state fair BVLD and see what they suggest

I'll have to check that place out, but paintscratch sells paint by the can also, for gun use.

Gotcha, does it tell you how to split the concentration of paint/reducer on the can. And I know you have painted, do you think the paintscratch stuff will be alright?

Is Acrylic Lacquer Thinner the same kinda stuff, or should I just try to find the UR50 stuff
And I don't have to thin the clear right?

I think I may still have my painting guide books...I will check when I get home..
I have never heard of that paint for anything large. I would not paint the lower half of a door, just paint the entire door for the time it takes to tape it off it will be much cleaner.

the guys here at work swear by napa.... and I know saves in lakeland is really good ... they sell ppg I believe as the main product.

honestly I would just get it from napa...not online

The guys at the garage told me that Saves gives a discount to 'dream machines' members, I would try them and mention you were recomended by 'dream machines' maybe you can get it cheaper and not have to deal with shipping.

I second going to a local place.. You might also want to consider doing the body work and prep and having somebody spray it for you. They know what to buy and can usually get the materials faster. Adam M, does reasonably priced work like this.

The reducer type is different for different types of paint. You will also need a catalyst for urethane paint. You also need to make sure your primer is compatible with the paint you are using.

I was just going to do it myself because I'm on a tight budget (honestly, like the cost of the paint) since I've had to buy doors and stuff already. John at the garage said that I wouldn't even have to prime the doors and trunk that are going on, just to scuff them up with a scotchbrite pad.

the ur50 will work with any basecoat. you can to split it 2-1. 2 parts paint 1 part reducer and no you do not have to thin clear. im not to use about this paint scratch deal. you might not even need anything for that stuff, but from a place like saves.. thats what you have to do.

i have to stop into J and T today for a new paint gun.. i can pick up paint if you would like and ill meet up with you
j&t is a supply place, i got a friend behind the desk..

Yeah, I'll check around, I don't care that it might look a little off, it's still better than getting a mkIV or another car right now.
